Summary:
Eric is out of his depth, and Scot isn't helping.

Review:
Breakfast with Scot was a charming little movie I saw a few years back. Recently I came across several fics for it, and really liked this one because it had the elements of the movie I enjoyed the most; friendship, family, awkwardness, and ultimately, love. There is a bit of a primer over here at [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomfest if you’re curious about the movie.

I really thought the author captured Scot and did a fabulous job with his characterization. Everything about the scene with Scot and Eric at the drugstore trying to buy “supplies” for Carla was fantastic. Scot’s outgoing personality, his impromptu concert, the description of the situation they found themselves in and his complete openness with strangers were wonderfully done and seemed to fit right in with movie canon. Eric’s awkwardness, embarrassment, yet ultimate love and affection for Scot was lovely and realistic and a perfect reflection of his character's growth and change.

Overall this is a wonderful, light slice of life fic.

Title: Got to Do What You Love
Fandom: Marvel / Avengers Movie-verse
Pairing: Clint/Coulson
Categories: Friendship, Team, Angst, Post-Canon
Length: Medium (8,790 words)
Warnings: Canon typical violence, mention of past unhealthy relationship

Author on LJ: Couldn’t find one
Author Website: Author @ AO3

Summary:
Phil has control issues, Clint has power issues, and the Avengers are a bundle of issues. It’s no wonder Maria wants nothing to do with them. Phil doesn’t seem to have a choice.

Review:
One of my obstacles when it comes to Clint/Coulson fic is the power difference between the two characters and the first reason I adored this fic is because it didn’t shy away from that differential and addressed it. The second reason I adored this fic was the friendships among the support personnel. Maria, Darcy, and Phil going out and drinking together is my new headcanon. The third reason I adored this fic was that it addressed how tough it is for Coulson to actually corral and handle the Avengers team. The author does a great job showing a more human side of Coulson. He gets angry and pissed off at the team and has to deal with those feelings, which he does, in a very realistic manner.

I like the writing style, and the way not everything is laid out for you, there are histories and such for the reader to extrapolate. Overall an enjoyable and satisfying read.

Got to Do What You Love

Title: To Have Outlived the Night
Fandom: Teen Wolf
Pairing: Derek/Stiles
Categories: action, drama, romance
Length: long (23,448)
Warnings: Spoilers through 2x08. The author says, "There’s one scene that might be considered edging around dubious consent... There’s also some violence at a couple of completely separate points (although probably less gory than on the show), and a character’s panic attack is observed from the outside."

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] stillane
Author Website: favicon stillane

Summary: Derek steps away from the window. “You helped me. They took that as a declaration.”

Review:
To Have Outlived the Night is a drama, but there should be a genre called Stiles-being-Stiles so you're not surprised when he names different factions of hunters after Girl Scout cookies and makes "Pretty Woman" a verb to describe the first time Derek makes a pass at him. Stillane gets the Stiles balance just right, with plenty of oddball goodness to keep me happy, but never so much that the pacing drags.

The story opens with Derek trapped and hunters already on the way, and there are death threats and rescues that make this a great ride, but at the same time the relationship between Derek and Stiles moves believably from hostile to understanding to romantic as they lean on one another to survive. I love the tentative ways they try to offer comfort to one another. I also thought stillane did a terrific job of handling both Stiles and Derek's relationship with Sheriff Stilinski.
