Summary: "Hey, I just realized!" Bob said. "You're like a country song: you lost your house, you lost your car, you lost your job, and now you've lost your dick!"
Review: I make no secret of my love for genderswitch fic, and this is a fantastic one. Lightgetsin has a wonderful writing style that's easy to read but draws you in. Harry really feels like Harry in this, with his sass and way of thinking and speaking. His reaction to having breasts is interesting, and so is the various reactions of others once they realize who they're looking at. Harry doesn't suddenly become weak and in need of saving, and being a woman doesn't really change Harry and John's relationship at all. This is actually part of a series and the other installments are just as delightful, following the development of Harry and John's relationship. It's not all smooth sailing, but it's so wonderfully them. If you like lightgetsin's other work, you'll enjoy this fic as well!

Author's Summary:
Post-apocalyptic Chicago: Harry Dresden, the itinerant Winter Knight, is contacted by the errant Sheriff Karrin Murphy. Something is brutally murdering people in Wisconsin, and the local militia is driving off anyone who tries to check it out. It's up to Harry to root out the threat-- and figure out where his loyalties lie, between the Faerie Court he sold himself to, and the people he's always tried to save.
Review:
Dry Bones Can Harm No One has been at the top of my list of fics to rec for our Dark/Horror week for ages, and the whole series is excellent. Set in a dystopian post-apocalyptic world, the first story lays out the AU--Marcone is now running what's left of the Chicago-area society and Harry is the Winter Knight--showing the world and their budding relationship. It has an excellent PoV, and you really feel in the moment as one character saves the other from a roadside attack by hostile forces and later when they're safe in Marcone's Fort. The second is a fun PWP set at the tail-end of the first, and makes you get the two as a couple, with their playfulness and snark, and there's a hint of angst regarding their changed circumstances. The following story is heartbreaking, with Harry and John at odds when John makes a unilateral move that he sees as right but endangers both Harry and Bob. John's actions are a betrayal of trust, and Harry's reaction of cutting himself off from his human contacts in the Chicago Fort is understandable but not very healthy for him. I like that the resolution is very adult; both of them have made mistakes and acknowledge that, and it leaves you hopeful for their relationship despite complicated outside obligations and loyalties that might pull them apart.
In the third fic, Harry mentions something happening in Wisconsin he didn't want to talk or think about...that something is the final story, which is an epic-length horror-suspense-thriller. Harry goes to investigate a series of grizzly murders and stumbles upon a isolated outpost. Their insular society--run by a militia group--and some of the people there-in are creepy, let alone the supernatural horror that's in their midst. There are some excellent original characters, some of whom I got really attached to (um, so please note the warnings). Harry does a lot of leg work on the case, trying to sort out the facts with unhelpful locals and daunting odds. Alternating with Harry's investigation are flashbacks that flesh out the AUs backstory and show what happened to Harry and his various friends during and after the apocalypse. There is angst and horror and terror, but also real moments of human connection and friendship and hope. As one commenter on the story put it: "it broke my heart, wore me down, and still managed to put me mostly back together again in the end."
There were moments I felt some wobbles in continuity between the four stories where they didn't 100% mesh-up, though it could be attributed to reading a very long series and losing track of little details. Regardless, the series is great if you're into post-apocalyptic world-building and including a creepy epic-length tale with a hopeful ending. If you want to read just Dry Bones Can Harm No One for the creepy horror story, it can stand on its own with the flashbacks giving plenty of background information.
Again, please note the warnings, particularly in regards to character death and cannibalism. Also violence and gore. Some of the imagery and situations are frankly haunting, and stuck with me for ages after I first read the stories.

Summary:
Falling in lust. Falling in love. Becoming aware of both, and deciding to come out to family and friends. Mix in a case involving supernatural politics, warlocks, conspiracies, faeries, Knights, gods and mortal enemies, and it's a typical day for Harry Dresden. Post-Turn Coat.
Written for the prompt: People have been kidding Harry Dresden about being gay for a while. Now Harry's come to terms with his bisexuality and fallen for a man, and while some of his family and friends can deal with this, others are having a plethora of problems--and causing a number of them as well.
Review:
Burned out after the events of Turn Coat, Harry starts visiting Demonreach regularly for some down-time. When John Marcone goes to the island to confront the place he'd been tortured and runs into Harry. They start meeting at the island, first by happenstance, then later on purpose. Harry grapples with his bisexuality and repressed attraction to men, as well as his fears about his friends reactions to his growing relationship with a mobster. Talking with some of his friends leads not just to realizations about his relationship with John, but also an epiphany about a conspiracy against them.

Mister the cat's perspective on when he first meets the strange kitten that Mister's wizard has brought home (Mouse the dog), and tries to train him as a proper cat. The kitten can't seem to get anything right, but at least he's a good foot warmer in winter.

Hundreds of Wyldfae in Chicago work for Harry in an emergency and many are sworn to his home guard. The Wyldfae decide to Choose, not for Summer or Winter, but for Harry and make him Wyldfae King. Harry receives Power along with the status and meets Baron Marcone, Mab and Titania on even footing for the first time. What does this meeting look like?
Review:
As the official subtitle says, this is the story of how Harry Dresden accidentally becomes king of the Wyldfae. It starts with little things, with Toot-toot and his buddies, with Harry helping out random sprites and other fae creatures, and turns into something completely unexpected. The best part is that Harry is totally oblivious to the weirdness, until his side activities have greater and greater affects on Chicago and the magical world.
This is one of my go-to happy fics. It happily patches up some sad developments in canon, skirts some others and is such good fun.

The best part is that Harry is totally oblivious to the weirdness, until his side activities have greater and greater affects on Chicago and the magical world.
This is one of my go-to happy fics. It happily patches up some sad developments in canon, skirts some others and is such good fun.
