Review:
This AU is a beautifully written exploration of lonely Duo's search for acceptance. As in canon he is an orphan, though this time in a modern AU. The newest member of a gay fraternity at his university, his struggle to fit in and his sense of being an outsider are poignantly written and very relatable. It takes a deal with the devil - who is, in this case, Heero - for him to finally see that his isolation was in fact all in his head and more a product of his own insecurity rather than anything tangible.
Duo's feelings are so well explored and explained that it's easy to see him taking these extreme measures for companionship. Being a lonely orphan for most of his life who has never had his romantic needs fulfilled, I didn't actually find it very far fetched that he would make a deal with Heero. Despite the potentially angsty subject matter this is a mostly gentle fic that's more of a character study, and I found the more subtle and ordinary issues Duo was dealing with very easy to empathise with. All in all this is a slow and thoughtful fic with a lovely payoff.

It's super epic week, and for the occasion I'm reccing the longest fic in my collection. Fics this long can sometimes lose momentum, or only be long because the author doesn't know how to edit themselves. Happily, that is not the case with this fic. The crime novel plot keeps the momentum going despite the long word count. There's twists and red herrings and betrayals - pretty much what you would expect. That doesn't mean that those twists don't pack a punch though, and they certainly helped keep my attention. So did the story of Heero and Duo's developing relationship, which is also a very compelling reason to keep reading.
Heero and Wufei are a pair of detectives tasked with protecting Duo, the witness to the murder. Their friendship is a delight to read, a pair of stoic badasses who greatly respect and admire each other. Wufei is the consummate professional, and Heero is the guy who keeps getting reprimanded for using excessive force. Duo is an exotic dancer, annoying, full of attitude, definitely not the sort of person to sit quietly back and let the cops take care of him, and determined to needle Heero into showing emotion - he's completely in character. Everyone is, and their interactions are a delight to read. After a bit of a rollercoaster the ending of the fic is a satisfying and sweet payoff.

Review:
Duo, a mortician working the graveyard (hah) shift, comes across a dead body... that isn't quite dead. It's a cool premise for a deliciously creepy little Heero/Duo fic. The author has really done a great job creating a horror movie atmosphere; every scene takes place at night, or in a storm at night, or in dingy little apartments that never see the sunlight. This, the authors mastery of description, and the fact that it all happens over the same night, give this fic a dreamlike - or nightmarish - quality that really suits its creepy overtones.
Every character seems a little off, with Duo driven slightly insane by his work, and Heero the socially awkward character we know and love with an extra dose of supernatural creepiness. Their interactions are both cute and creepy, as a self-hating Heero fights his nature and Duo, exasperated and scared by turns, befriends him through pure brute force. There are also great moments of dark humour and even some sweetness, nicely offset by the horror movie style of the setting.

A bit of a warning still, Relena is not presented as an upstanding Lady here.
The banter between Heero, Duo and cie is just wonderful. And Heero's plotting is both sweet and fun.

To celebrate the soon to be Yule season, here comes one of the fluffiest holiday fic I've ever read.
In this completely improbable story, the pilots and cie are forced to take a month long vacation and to act as the teenagers/young adults they are.
The characterization might not be always spot on. But the relationships between all the characters are well-done. There are some really fun scenes which balance quite well the sweet parts.
Overall, it's a nice read, curled under a blanket with some chocolate.
