Review:
When what starts out as a run-of-the-mil bad day turns into a potentially lethal bad day, Starsky must race against the clock to save his best friend and partner’s life.
I’ll admit up front that this is one of those fics that skirts the edges of what is considered ‘dark’, at least by fandom standards. It doesn’t have an unhappy ending, doesn’t involve death, and doesn’t contain non-con. What it does have, however, is a situation that is both nightmarish and grim, especially for our two main characters.
Starsky’s desperation in this is biting; his need to keep his partner alive so consuming that he’s ready and willing to die right alongside Hutch. Hutch, in his turn, is desperate and in pain, wanting to push Starsky away from danger but also keep him close. It’s riveting and painful to read, taking you right to edge of ‘dark’ and yanking you back just at the right second.
While, again, this may not be what fandom considers a standard dark story, it still manages to fall into that category for me, especially when one considers just how horrifying the situation would be to be in. Definitely worth the read for S&H fans.

The basic premise: Starsky, who is secretly in love with Hutch, and has sex with Hutch one night. In the sequel some years later, things finally get resolved.
Rosemary writes some of the best relationship angst - heartbreaking enough to really tug at your emotions but not so overwhelming that you lose the satisfaction and credibility of a fluffy happy ending. Bargain at Any Price and Balance Due are classic pining stories, gorgeous and deft in their execution. Told from Starsky's point of view, the stories do a marvelous job of demonstrating his longing but simultaneously leave you in little doubt that Hutch is in much the same position. Starsky does go through some mental rationalizations that make you want to smack him (and Hutch) upside the head but while it's clear to the reader what's going on, Starsky's obliviousness is not unbelievable either. Rosemary walks a fine balance in that regard but pulls it off with graceful ease.
Angsty, sweet, and plenty schmoopy at the end. A favorite of mine in the pining genre.

Authors’ Summary: Starsky and Hutch spend Christmas taking care of Hutch's parents' home. While there they deal with Hutch's difficult relationship with his parents, both of their fears about Hutch's recent tangle with the plague and the new dimension that seems to be developing in their relationship.
Review:
The summary above actually gives you a pretty good synopsis of what you’re getting into with this story. If you’re wanting something heavy on plot, this is not the fic for you, but if you want a story focusing on character relationships and heavy on hurt/comfort (for BOTH Starsky and Hutch, even) then you can’t go wrong with Tandem. The story is set over the boys’ visit to wintertime Minnesota and even amidst the hurt part of the hurt/comfort and the family drama, the authors still manage to capture that comfortable vacation feeling. It’s slow, sweet, and gentle, and their coming together is natural and angst-free.
Perfect for anyone craving a dash of hurt/comfort and angst with an emphasis on the comfort and romantic fluff. Also as a bonus: there is a lovely pencil drawing of Hutch at the beginning of the story worth checking out itself.

Author’s Summary: Hutch is feverish
Review:
It’s bit difficult to describe this story – Starsky and Hutch rescue a kidnapped boy and get invited to the family’s Dia de los Muertos celebration. At the same time, Hutch is struggling to understand his relationship with Starsky now that they’ve embarked on a physical relationship and he comes down sick as well. The whole story, between Hutch’s fever and the Dia de los Muertos celebration, is tilted towards the dreamy, surreal side. It’s not a get-together fic, per se, but it feels like a first-time fic.
Molo has a knack for writing the guys realistically and packing a whole lot into a relatively short story (it always surprises me when I check her word count because it feels like there’s more). There’s a dash of angst, action, hurt/comfort, romance, and just some all-around lovely writing all in a medium-sized fic.
