Summary: Julian Bashir spent a month in Internment Camp 317 as a prisoner of the Dominion, and he never really spoke much about it later...
Review: “You are going to help us,” Tain said, implacably. “I can understand your reluctance to reveal how you are going to help us, but you really don't have a choice. While I've been able to secure the hardware components needed for transmission, I still need to decrypt the code walls around the power system so that I can divert sufficient energy for our needs. That's where you come in.”
Julian frowned. “I'm a Doctor,” he said, “Not a mathematician.”
“Come now,” Tain said, faint annoyance audible in his voice, “You and I both know you have certain hidden talents which you seem to be rather embarrassed about.”
So this fic is a few years old but I read it for the first time the other day, following someone else's bookmarks, and it rocks my socks because it ties the genetic enhancements thread to canon. Or at least, as much so as I think it's ever possible to tie that into canon, and into Dr Bashir's characterisation, given how in 4 and a half seasons canon had never so much as tipped a sly nod towards it until it sprung that upon the viewership in what generally always seemed like a one-off episode where continuity had left the house, street, and was heading way out of the quadrant.
Martok and Tain and the rest of the prison camp inmates are nicely written and the fic hinges on its capacity to illustrate Dr Bashir's growing relationships within the little group. In fact, of Julian interacting with a diverse bunch of species with differing points of view, who aren't so much interested in the rigid point of view of the Federation on... certain very personal subjects that might be considered illegal and taboo.
It feels odd to label it 'team' fic when it's not the DS9 team in question, but nonetheless, it's about how this little group become knit together by necessity to survive and eventually escape. And how Dr Bashir gains an odd freedom, of sorts, that he's never actually had among his Federation compatriots, in the midst of all this strife.

Summary: Post-WYLB Bashir and LaForge try to solve a murder in the Post-War Alpha Quadrant.
Review: This is a solid mystery/adventure story set against the backdrop of the post-Dominion War Federation after DS9 tv canon leaves off.
Most delightfully in this fic, Bashir is... Bashir, and even years down the line from Emissary, there's still some part of him that would rather be a detective/spy/adventurer, and that enthusiasm carries through in the more matured portrayal of his character. I'm less familiar with LaForge and TNG, but he seems likeably written as the frustrated straight man to Bashir's impulsivity, and the banter between them is enjoyable.
I'm not expert enough to vouch for the accuracy of the science, Trek tech and medical information, but it all sounds incredibly convincing to me and there's so much of it, and so many *details* in the background this mystery takes place upon. Observations and anecdotes of the war and post-war, and the supply chain issues confounding Starfleet's military and medical efforts, and most relevantly for Bashir, costing lives.
As the header says, there's some Bashir/Ezri, but it's no more than a footnote and touchstone for Julian on his grim posting apart from her, there isn't a lot of time spent on it: the fic clearly supports the relationship but is for the most part gen. Geordi LaForge is along for some of the ride, but it really is Dr Julian Bashir's show. There are a few typos throughout, but they're not too much distraction from reading.

Author's Summary: Julian Bashir joins the post-war effort on Cardassia Prime because it seems like the most obvious thing to do: No planet is worse off after the war, he's a doctor, and they don't have enough of those. He's learning the language, because that's what you do when you're living somewhere for an indefinite amount of time. But he soon realizes that language isn't just about vocabulary and grammar, and learns a few things about his own past along the way.
Review: My absolute favourite setting for G/B fics is stories set post-series with Bashir finding himself drawn to Cardassia. And 'Learning the Language' is without a doubt, the best this scenario has ever produced.
Told from Bashir's POV it has him in that adorably-unawares state we love him in. He loves living on Cardassia and is planning on staying indefinitely, but he's avoiding thinking about the real reason he's there: Garak obviously. Garak for his part shines as the current leader of Cardassia, finally able to help his people in the way he's always wanted. They are both disgustingly in character (no small feat with these two men) and their interactions spark with unspoken love and lust, every touch and gaze written to perfection through Allemande's gorgeous writing. Cardassia itself comes to life, with Allemande describing enough details to paint a picture, but there's so much space between her words, letting your mind fill it in and it really helps make Cardassia feel like a real place in your mind.
Plus, it has the most beautiful 'getting together-we-realize-we-love-each-other' moment I've ever read in GB fanfic (if not one of all fanfic I've read).
The story does have two followup sequels; the second, Facing the Past, is adorable and definitely worth a read. The third is enjoyable, but lacks the depth and beauty of 'Learning the Language'. But go read this one, it's so fabulous; I've reread it several times and each time it's delightful.

calapine makes an unconventional but beautiful choice with her song, and for something so epic in scope, she makes it impactful on a personal scale as well, and deeply uplifting. This tribute is amazing not only for its subject matter, but also for its diversity. Women are not just awesome when they are gorgeous and kick-ass and come out with both guns blazing, but they're also awesome when they're doing science experiments, or being brave, or making difficult decisions.
Women can be some of the most harshly judged characters on screen -- because often, women are their own harshest critics. This vid highlights some unexpected choices, and reminds us that every single woman is more than just the few seconds we see them on screen -- they each have their own stories.

This is one of my favorite vids ever (no lie). It's a perfect combination of music and content, and as a life-long sci-fi fan I adore the love and care the vidder shows to the genre and joy the vid gets across. There are great little character moments, and I particularly liked how Bironic wove together similar situations in the INCREDIBLE HUGE amounts of fandoms into coherent sequences (wormholes, crashes, ode to engineers, and my favorite the spinning/crashing sequence).

Summary:
In 2398, reporter Felix Marian interviews Chairman Garak and Ambassador Bashir about the formation of the Cardassian Democratic Union and ends up learning more about Cardassia than he intended.
Review:
Set far after the series ended, the story alternates between interviews with Garak and Julian talking about working on Cardassia after the war and telling how they met again and finally got together. I really enjoyed the outsider perspective in the interview scenes, and they perfectly frame the flash backs scenes of both Julian and Garak of their early romance. Garak is working on rebuilding his home planet, while Julian has quit Starfleet ("In retrospect, he shouldn't have called the Rear Admiral a xenophobic asshole.") and has come to Cardassia to where the need for doctors is the greatest.
Garak and Julian are so very themselves, their character voices and reactions are pitch-perfect. The bits of Cardassian culture are fun and surprising, and the original character is well done. A great story that shows the beginnings AND future of their relationship, in a completely believable way.

After her disappointment regarding Chief O'Brienn, Gilora Rejal thinks her luck might change when she meets Doctor Bashir. The station's tailor, however, might have something to say about that.
I love when authors really take the time to see things from the perspective of the alien culture they are writing and step back from the "default" Federation mindset to present us with something interesting and unique. Regann does this wonderfully here, interlacing hints we have gotten about Cardassians from canon to form a plausible and intricate cultural background to serve as the backbone of her plot. Garak is his usual charming and utterly Cardassian self and Julian manages to use that to his advantage beautifully. All in all, this is an extremely charming G/B fic.

Five paths Kira's life might have taken: justice, fortitude, hope, faith and charity.
There are a lot of people that are not fond of the "Five Things" format for fics. While I agree that it has been overused in certain fandoms and that it can be an extremely limited way of telling a story, I think that a well done "Five Things" fic can be an excellent way of addressing a multitude of "what-if" scenarios.
What I love about this story is that the scenarios, besides being very well written, are incredibly plausible: I can definitely see Kira clinging to the Resistance in the face of what she perceives as a second occupation with the Federation taking the place of Cardassians and events in key episodes such as "Behind the Lines" taking a different path. All in all this is a well crafted story that explores many facets of the character.

"In Purgatory" and "By Inferno" were two of my favorite DS9 episodes and I loved to see how a Garak/Bashir relationship might evolve from there. Many plot points which are more or less ignored on the show (such as the significance of Julian knowing Garak's deepest secrets and a logical explanation for why Julian would submit to Zimmerman's extensive inquires to produce the LMH when he has much to hide) are neatly tied together in the carefully unfolding plot. But interesting as some of the plot points are, it's The Hoyden's perfect portrayal of both Julian - with his anxieties and fears - and Garak - with his protectiveness and secrets - that make me really love this fic.
