Title: Bait & Switch
Fandom: Criminal Minds-Oz Crossover
Pairing: Implied Christopher Keller/Spencer Reid
Categories: Angst, Case File, Crossover, Dark, Drama, Hurt/Comfort, Mystery, Sad Story
Length: Long (~39,954)
Warnings: Character Death, Dubious Consent, Graphic Descriptions of Violence, Non-Consensual Drug-Use, Drug Dealing, Drug Use, Dark Themes but despite that, it's very beautiful.

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lapenserosa
Author Website: ArchiveofOurOwn

Author's Summary: Bait and Switch..
Spencer Reid is a young FBI profiler tasked with interviewing Christopher Keller, a Death Row inmate with many secrets and a very dangerous appetite.

Sequel's Summary.. The Restored Life
After the events of Bait and Switch, Reid on a college recruitment tour with David Rossi. During their last stop in San Francisco, CA, Reid meets an interesting stranger that seems genuinely interested in helping him heal from his interactions with Keller. Then when bodies of young men begin turning up in heavily toured areas the rest of the team flies out to San Francisco to help investigate and their discoveries could l just be all Reid needs to fully come undone.

Review:
While I had doubts about reading this fic after seeing the warnings, I decided to take a chance and read it. And while I regret reading it after bawling for a good hour, I loved it so very much. The author has managed to mesmerize and make something so dark be so beautiful.

It's an unconventional love story wherein you can't really decide if it's really a love story. But it's so beautiful. Lapenserosa manages to tell a story of the past, of the present and make it merge beautifully. Keller is wonderfully characterized, you see him as a hardened criminal with a difficult past but hints of a good man shines through. Spencer Reid is also in character, the endearing awkwardness he has that makes you love him. You see what could have been, what might have been and it's so painfully beautiful that you can't stop wondering what-if.

Best thing is, Lapenserosa has a sequel up, while still ongoing, is just one chapter to the end. Read it, you won't regret it. :)

Review:
Chris Keller breaks out of prison, and he and Toby run away to Las Vegas. It isn't long before the law is on their tales, and Toby has to decide between his lover and his life.

I really love the strange, twisted 'Bonnie-and-Clyde meets Thelma-and-Louise' dynamic that Keller and Beecher take on in this fic, and while the ending is definitely not happy, there's hope in the future for them. I adore the way [livejournal.com profile] mandysbitch portrays their relationship, insular and frightening in it's intensity. Prison has changed these men, and you can clearly see it in the story. There are some wonderful OCs in here too, interesting and believable. All in all, I think this one of the best Oz fics I've come across yet.

Warnings:

Review:
It is somewhat inevitable that a self-destructive drunkard like Tobias Beecher would hurt someone in the throws of another late night bender. It's a good thing, however, that he's run over a lowlife like Chris Keller instead of some unlucky innocent. (Or, maybe not.)

I love, love, love [livejournal.com profile] blackchaps's AUs. They're long, engrossing and the perfect way to spend a quiet afternoon. Hit and Run is a really fun read, and captures the essential dysfunctional nature of both men, showing that even if they didn't go to prison, their relationship would be just as screwed up as it is in the big house. The only thing that I had a problem with in this fic was a scene with marijuana use, and that's just because of personal preference.

Hit and Run

Review:

Beecher and Keller fantasize about what their lives would’ve been like if they’d met outside of Oz.

This fic is very sad and very sweet. You can tell that Beecher and Keller really love each other as they pine for what could’ve been. Make no mistake, their love is brutal and bitter, but it’s still there, in the end, and this fic really captures that. I really loved the dynamic between Sister Pete and Keller in this fic, she's trying so hard to save Toby from Chris, and Chris will have none of that, matching her blow for blow. There's something deeply unsettling but satisfying about having characters fantasize about each other, and how it can tell so much about the person having the fantasy, when it's done right. And this fic? So done right.
