Summary:A star empire is menaced by deadly creatures from the time of Rassilon. Will one lone Time Lord and a human companion be enough to defeat them?

Review:

Sometimes what I really need is a good canon-style adventure. Donna is one of my favorite companions and I was always a bit sad that we only got the one season with her and especially about how things ended up for her.

This is not a fix-it for that, but it’s a wonderful gen adventure that slots in right in between the episodes we have for her and the Doctor. The interactions and dialogue are very in character (in the beginning Donna seems a bit smart in the wrong way, but that soon levels back to canon Donna brilliance).

It’s a brilliantly crafted adventure story too, that could very well be an episode. Lindenharp does an amazing job of fleshing out the details of the Time War and Time Lord history. I found the world-building she did for the ancient alien civilization they encounter and all the traditions and costums of theirs very engaging and I love the underlying story of culture clash, especially because it’s also a story of how people from different cultures can work together and come to understand each other better.

It’s a wonderful read all around.

And although Ianto goes hurtling through the universe, crossing time and space seems to teach him one thing in particular – that all roads lead to Rome.

Review:
I love me some Ianto fic, and the rare and beautiful fics where he interacts with the Doctor really make me happy. Set during Jacks absence from Torchwood, the Doctor crash lands and regenerates in Ianto's garden. Keen for a break from a Jack-less Torchwood, Ianto joins the Doctor as a companion. What follows is, of course, adventures through space and time, including Ianto meeting some past versions of Jack and training at the Time Agency academy.

The best feature of this story is the relationship between Ianto and the Doctor. Rather than regenerating into the usual adult white man, the Doctor is instead an Indian teenager. This doesn't come off as gimmicky at all; it's rarely mentioned directly by the author, and the changes it makes to the Doctors interactions with strangers and the usual Doctor/Companion relationship are made obvious through show rather than tell. His youth means strangers talk to Ianto before they do him, and also tones down his usual confidence/arrogance into something a little more vulnerable and human. This different dynamic makes for plenty of touching and funny moments, and elevates the fic into something lovely and unique with a surprisingly sweet tone.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has something to say on the subject of chance meetings.

Review:
Loooved this. If you're at all familiar with the Hitchhiker's Guide books (and if you aren't, just. Just go read them, haha) then this fic will be like stepping into an old home. A hilarious, tongue-in-cheek old home that makes bubbling feelings of joy appear.

It's very much in line with the Hitchhiker's books. Arthur is desperate for tea and goes after the Doctor because, of course, the Doctor has bought all of the tea. Seeing as this is Not Fair, he proceeds after the Doctor and bumps into Rose, who is wonderful and human and ugh, my love for Rose, people.

This quote is kind of perfect: "Arthur watched them, trying to work things out. So the Doctor was a member of an almost immortal and omnipotent species that didn't exist, and Rose was one of those people who followed you round a department store because you couldn't be trusted looking through the racks on your own? And together they knocked around the universe in a bizarrely large police box?"

There's not much that actual happens and yet the fic is still brilliant. If you're a fan of Hitchhiker's Guide and Doctor Who then definitely check this one out. If you're just a fan of one of the two... check this out anyway and it might convince you to pick up the other.

Summary:
General Xenol, Commander of the Dalek First Conquest Army, has a problem. He seems to be at odds with the Emperor over the future of the Dalek race.

Review:
This is a magnificent fully-CG webcomic charting the course of a civil war between our favourite floating pepper-pots, the Daleks. It's set fairly early in the Daleks' history — there is no time travel or more than usually outrageous technology, and no sight of Time Lords or their pesky companions. There are cameos from other Dr Who aliens (remember the Mechanoids?), but all the important action takes place between the Dalek factions.

The storytelling is a little slow to start with, leaving us with a bit much time to marvel at the gorgeousness of the CG design and rendering. That's OK, though, because the artwork is gorgeous, and most pages repay a second look for the little jokes scattered through the comic. While this is a war story, it is told with great humour and many parodies throughout. The segment with the Dalek James Bond is bizarre in a good way, and the grand, climactic single combat between Xenol and the Emperor can't be seen as anything other than a lightsabre fight. For all that, you do get drawn into the characters and the storytelling, and some of the character deaths really do bring a tear to your eye.

We don't really have a length gauge for webcomics, but at over seven hundred pages I feel safe in calling this a Super!Epic. An excellent epic too, and I say that as someone who isn't particularly visual. Go. Read.

Review:
This cracky fic is a little balm for fans who love to see Donna get a different ending to what she was lumped with in canon. She's hilariously in character as she strides into Torchwood and takes over with a minimum of fuss and bullshit. I love me some competent, plain-speaking and no-nonsense Donna, and this fic delivers that in spades. This was actually written after the Christmas special rather than after her season, but it still gets her character down beautifully.

An unexpected event pulls Rose and Jack away from the Doctor, throwing them into separate time streams.

Review:
And sometimes all I want is to read some solid gen.

This fic is basically spot on. You could really see this happening, where Jack and Rose go with the Doctor to a new world, only oops! He forgot that sometimes there's a little problem with shifting time storms and both Jack and Rose are flung into different timelines and need to get to the Doctor again. Or have the Doctor come to them. They're both clever people and I love them so much.

Rose is flung to the past and meets Jack. Again. Jack is flung to his future and meets Ianto. It's just clever, really. There's no huge highs or lows in the fic, but the way things weave together, the way that this has affected the timeline (only not, because we know these things have happened/will happen) is smartly done.

But like I said, this fic isn't hugely dramatic. It's just a neat little piece that weaves together with canon very well, and just seems so plausible.

Author's Summary:
Oxford was Luke's chance at normal. At least, until he met the pretty girl in his Ancient Languages class...and the girls who follow her around, and the strange boy who hangs around her flat, and those weird phone calls from her sister...

Review:
Luke Smith goes to college, reading Anthropology because Physics is still too easy. He meets Dawn Summers and ends up not entirely accidentally in a study group with her. The story revolves around the clashing and meshing of their worldviews over the subsequent months. It's not exactly a romance, because Luke is terrible at that sort of thing, but they do end up as more than friends. There are threats and backup from both sides of the crossover, and it all fits together very nicely. The sequel throws the Doctor, Amy and Rory into the mix, and ups the ante by filling in some Buffyverse Extremely Ancient History. I didn't see the ending coming, and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Fandomlver has a very deft touch with the characters, making each of them distinct and recognisable without exaggerating them (often hard to do with Andrew, for instance). Luke in particular is adorable, being super-intelligent but utterly clueless when it comes to people, and comes out with some quotes that are absolutely perfect Dr Who. The storyline too is an interesting blend of the styles of both Buffy and Who: we are presented with what feels like a Who-style problem in a Buffyverse framework. Interestingly the sequel, Travelling in a Wibbly Wobbly Liney Whiney reverses this, presenting a Buffy-like problem in a Whovian framework. Both are well-handled and fit their respective styles; the threats feel appropriate, neither too hard nor too easy for either group's very different expertises. Even the humour is nicely balanced, and frequently understated. The irony of Luke insisting to Dawn and Connor that he and Sky are both human is just there for the reader to pick up on rather than hammered home, for instance.

In short, this is a well-written, gentle pair of epics that deserve a wider audience. If for absolutely nothing else I would love them for this quote from Luke: "Don't need weapons. I have physics." Perfect Who, just perfect.

calapine makes an unconventional but beautiful choice with her song, and for something so epic in scope, she makes it impactful on a personal scale as well, and deeply uplifting. This tribute is amazing not only for its subject matter, but also for its diversity. Women are not just awesome when they are gorgeous and kick-ass and come out with both guns blazing, but they're also awesome when they're doing science experiments, or being brave, or making difficult decisions.

Women can be some of the most harshly judged characters on screen -- because often, women are their own harshest critics. This vid highlights some unexpected choices, and reminds us that every single woman is more than just the few seconds we see them on screen -- they each have their own stories.

There are great little character moments, and I particularly liked how Bironic wove together similar situations in the INCREDIBLE HUGE amounts of fandoms into coherent sequences (wormholes, crashes, ode to engineers, and my favorite the spinning/crashing sequence).

This would be your average Amy/Eleven/Rory fic except it's from Rory's point of view, which you don't find as often. I think it's a refreshing change. As much as I love Amy and the Doctor, I think a lot of times in fic Rory is just an afterthought or just along for the ride. I really enjoy stories that have him involved and to have a story from his pov is lovely.

This story also puts a bit of a twist on the threesome dynamic. Instead of Amy pushing for them to add the Doctor into the mix, this time it's Rory that takes charge, so to speak, and pulls the Doctor in. :)
