calapine makes an unconventional but beautiful choice with her song, and for something so epic in scope, she makes it impactful on a personal scale as well, and deeply uplifting. This tribute is amazing not only for its subject matter, but also for its diversity. Women are not just awesome when they are gorgeous and kick-ass and come out with both guns blazing, but they're also awesome when they're doing science experiments, or being brave, or making difficult decisions.
Women can be some of the most harshly judged characters on screen -- because often, women are their own harshest critics. This vid highlights some unexpected choices, and reminds us that every single woman is more than just the few seconds we see them on screen -- they each have their own stories.

Summary: After a long search, Mulder finally finds someone who'll give him the extreme thrills he seeks - but there's a price.
Review:
For super! epics week I picked one of my favourite stories by Xanthe and the first "real" bdsm relationship fanfiction I read. Often people use the trope of slavery to have one character force the other to submit and feature them in various situations where the submissive person is whipped, caned, flogged, tied up etc. At least that was the experience I had had before I came across Xanthe's super! epic X-Files fanfiction.
First off, I am not a fan of the X-Files. All in all I've seen so far about 3-5 episodes and I'm not impressed with the show all that much. But, for some reason, the premiss of the story captivated me and I read the story without actually knowing most of the characters. For me it was almost like reading incredibly well-written original slash.
My lack of knowledge of the characters and plots of the TV show were no problem at all while reading the fanfiction and the captivating portrayal of the relationship and the shift in the relationship between Mulder and Skinner had me reading the whole novel without a pause.
It is by far one of my favourite bdsm feauturing stories and even though I have recced this genre a couple of times (and a lot of great stories), I have reserved a special place in my heart for this piece of fanfiction that got me started on that road. ;)

Review:
So far my recs have shown my preference for AUs and crossovers and this story by Bernice is a prime example of an alternative reality/universe. My lack of knowledge of the X-Files and the characters of the show were of no consequence when reading the thrilling tale of marine biologist Fox Mulder whose dreams come true when he gets the call that a stranded merman has been discovered on the beach. In this particular world the existence of merfolk is not a myth and even though everyone knows that they exist, they are rarely seen due to their mistrust of humans.
What makes this story especially interesting is the fact that the merman is not some fantastical creature who changes between human and fish form. He does not speak human speech and his understanding of what is happening is none existent. He tries to explain to himself the events in his own view and knowledge of the world and it is much more like the perception of a creature than a human being.
If you like sea creatures please give this one a chance. And just be warned that yes, this story features inter-species sex.

Summary: Once again the Impossible Mission force moves into action, this time to stop a Columbian drug lord from realizing his ambition to expand his empire by going into partnership with an international drug runner.
I:M agent Ethan Hunt is assigned the daunting task of infiltrating Olivero de la Montana's stronghold in the guise of Connor Galbraith, a tough Irish drug runner. He needs an operative to act the role of Galbraith's constant companion, and lover, Daniel Ballard. Special Agent Fox Mulder, a near twin of the decadent young man, is recruited.
During the course of the mission, Mulder learns something about himself, and the two agents come to realize that Connor and Daniel may not be entirely irredeemable...

I first became aware of Scribe as an author when reading the amazing "Childe of the Night", a Dracula rewrite that is simply amazing and that she's currently editing for publishing. When browsing through her site I read stories original and fanfiction that were well thought out, rich in detail and filled with characters that you can't help but fall in love with.
Since I'm neither a fan of Mission: Impossible nor of the X-Files I read this story on a gamble. I have to say I'm glad I did. I'm sure that one can't help but like her writing and enjoy the journey this story takes you on. The well known protagonists from the series and the movies are paired with original characters that just as charming as the canon ones and together they live through adventures that keep you well entertained. It's a pity that Scribe never wrote that sequel she mentions on her website.

Alex is about to run away when Mulder realizes he's an ass. At which point he continues to be an ass and Krycek nearly dies.
I will admit this up front: this is totally, completely, 100% a guilty pleasure. Krycek is about as woobie as a semi-competent lethal killing machine can be, and Mulder keeps getting 'reformed' by the power of 'love' and the potential of loss. But you know what? I just don't care. Mulder's dickishness is totally canonical and there are enough flashes of canon!kickass!Alex to keep me satisfied and, frankly, I kind of enjoyed Mulder having to face that there are a lot of times when he's not a nice person. Plus, I sort of love Skinner in this (a cameo, but a fun one).
If you're in the mood for a serious, thoughtful exploration of the twisted Mulder/Krycek dynamic, this is not the fic for you. But if you want to read a fic where Mulder gets a much-deserved emotional slap upside the forehead, check this fic out.
