Author’s Summary:
One choice can change fate. Regina chooses love, Snow stays silent, and Cora casts the curse. Rumplestiltskin knows that trusting Cora with that much power is dangerous—but he has no choice if he wants to find his son. 28 years later, Gold and Regina awaken in Storybrooke and must work together to make the Savior believe.
Yes, this Storybrooke is far darker than the one you know.

Regarding the warnings:
A theme that comes up several times in Freeze on the Stones is the nature of consent and responsibility. Multiple characters are magically mind-controlled in various ways and encouraged or forced to harm or betray others. The different approaches and the different ways characters deal with it are interesting, but unflinching.

If you’re not comfortable with reading about people being trapped or forced into doing things, I’d definitely advise giving this fic a miss. None of the bad stuff is romanticised, but a lot of it is graphic. (Also, two men become better people because they are in love with good women. Which seems like a rather dodgy message to me.)

Review:
Freeze on the Stones assumes knowledge of canon. I would expect someone unfamiliar with canon to find the characters and circumstances hard to follow. However, the story takes the time to develop the characters it focuses on, so a basic grasp of the TV series is definitely enough to get you through.

Despite being a very long story, Freeze on the Stones is actually relatively fast-paced. It follows multiple people at any point and generally gives them one scene a chapter for the length of their story arc. Unusually for this style of writing, I only rarely found one story arc less compelling than the others. All the scenes were all well-written enough to be compelling, even when I didn’t particularly care for the main characters.

As you have probably gathered, this is a for want of a nail alternate universe, which explores what might have happened had it been Cora who cast the curse that created Storybrooke. While the result is very recognisable - the same characters in the same area in similar circumstances - there are many fascinating reversals from canon Season 1.

One of the more interesting themes it explores is Rumplestiltskin’s relationship with power. In canon, he feels extremely powerless without his magic, despite having sufficient money, reputation and blackmail to unquestionably be the most powerful person in town. In Freeze on the Stones, he is faced with a mayor who has the magical knowledge and viciousness to threaten him. It’s enjoyable to watch him deal with both that and a more equal relationship with the heroes.

Regina’s story is not about choosing between power and the people who love her, but about endlessly attempting to save the people she loves from her mother. It makes for less character development, as Regina simply ages to be more confident and caring. However, she is more active as a hero than a villain, so we still get a good look at her character and it is hard not to feel for her quiet sadness, calm compassion and desperate need to protect those she loves.

Summary: Even in Beacon Hills the dangers aren't always supernatural. There's plenty that is supernatural, of course, and sometimes that can include the solution as well as further danger. Even though this can mean playing with fire.

It wasn't Scott he called once he regained consciousness. Or Derek, even though Derek Hale was the first person to spring to mind when he thought of being slammed into walls, when he tasted and smelled and breathed blood.
No, it was his father that he speed-dialed and his father who came to him where he crouched in the alley, clutching her hand as she wheezed out her last bubbling breaths. It was his father's pained blue eyes that he met as the paramedics swarmed over them both, pulling her away even though it was obviously too late, she was already dead, touching him and shining lights in his eyes and asking him over-loud questions.
It was his father who elbowed his way through the paramedics, because it had been his father that he had called.

Review:

This fic is one of those you aren’t that sure where it will take you; that doesn’t mean it isn’t a good fic - it’s actually great - it just means it’s fic that keeps you on your toes. This fic is part of canon divergence, very clearly stated by the author’s initial notes: Boyd and Erica get back to Derek and the Alpha Pack doesn’t exist. The action starts in the first chapter and then takes us into a path that traces a very different Stiles from canon.

It’s not a fic that concentrates on Scott, Allison, Lydia or any of the other secondary characters. The fic cleary moves in between Stiles’ relationship with his father and his relationship with Derek, as well as a growing friendship with Danny. Scott and Stiles are falling out and it’s not a fic that shows Scott in favorable light, which is refreshing.
Another prominent character is Peter and as the author warns who starts reading, there are undertones and explicit Peter/Stiles, with a delivered Derek/Stiles endgame. I like this, I love Peter/Stiles, and I specially like when Peter encroaches in Derek’s territory to make him wake up. I also love the way Peter cannon and otherwise see the brilliance of Stiles, and this is a essential part of this fic.

This is a Derek/Stiles fic, so the most important part of the plot focus on them trying to be together and passing through the awkwardness of knowing each other, having had life and death situations together, and still not being sure if there are or not feeling, if they can or not trust each other. What makes this a great fic is the fact while Derek and Stiles are struggling to make each other see what they are and how they feel, Peter is trying to make Stiles his own and Stiles is discovering his sexuality.

It’s a good fic to read when you want a mixture of angst and sex, of teenage problems and real issues with the supernatural.

Summary: A backstory taking place over twenty years, from how House and Wilson met all the way to canon.

Review: This fic is certainly not lacking in details. Want to know the huge amount of unheard story the show didn’t even try to capitalize on? This fic tells about how Wilson and House met way before the show says they did and how they stayed friends and more while everything else moves on around them.
This fic is rough and mean which is what makes the characters so believable. House is his usual self but this fic makes a point out of showing that Wilson is just as bad if not worse in a lot of ways while still maintaining his goody two shoe side which had to be tricky to do.
I doubt you will find a fic with as much cheating in it as this one but at the same time you won’t find a fic with this kind of faithfulness either. Despite the fact neither have moments of monogamy that last more than a few weeks they are constantly open with each other even when it hurts both of them and there are so many moments where their love for each other shines through.
This fic also has many side stories any my favorite is about Wilson’s two twin nieces and how they perceive House and Wilson’s relationship. They first see them together when they are very young and throughout all Wilson’s wives have wanted the two to be out about their relationship. They love Wilson but their reactions to House are so funny and adorable because they easily see through his scathing words to what he really means and like him for it.

Summary: Stiles was supposed to be put in weight training, but due to scheduling problems he was dropped into Health. It was fine, really, it was up until the point where Coach assigned the baby project. And the kicker?
His partner was the reclusive, intimidating Derek Hale - so it really wasn't fine anymore; especially with a baby who wouldn't give him a moment of rest if Hale wasn't there. However, when the project forces him to get closer to Hale than he would even imagine possible, he learns new things about the Hale family and maybe begins to see Hale in a different light.
Even if he'd totally be the mom. [original summary]

Review: Oh, this fic! It’s so cute to see Stiles and Derek in high school and they both learning each other. Seriously, this fic goes over Derek and Stiles learning to take care of a fake baby for their Health project and developing an amazing friendship - this makes you teeth roth with all the sweetness.

At the same time, the sweetness is cut by the homophobia issues and underlying tension between the Argents and the Hales; the Sheriff is quite present too, coming along with another side plot - a drug cartel that keeps on killing people and no one knows who they are.

Derek is probably my favorite in this fic, because he is less jaded, even if he still has the gruffy side of the canonical Derek. His interactions with his family kids and uncles, the sweet way he treats Stiles and how fierce he gets when Stiles gets hurt, just adds up on his cute points. The Hale family is very well put together, thought for Laura’s fans, her behavior it’s quite odd.

This fic is adorable and deals with homophobia in an amazing way. So sit, read it and enjoy a very refreshing High School Au.

Title: Sinking Ships
Fandom: Teen Wolf
Pairing: Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski
Categories: Angst, AU,Slash, First Time, Drama, Hurt/comfort, Marriage of Convenience.
Length: Super! Epic [106646 words]
Warnings: Racism, Non-Con Elements. Arranged Marriege, Slavery, Werewolves as the dominant class, Abuse, Exposure to Cold and Hunger, Sub-Human Life Conditions.

Author Website: standinginanicedress(on AO3)

Summary: Derek Hale has never met a human before.
Throughout his life, he's probably encountered, give or take, a hundred or so. A mere hundred human beings in his twenty-three years walking around on earth, compared to the millions of weres he's seen. And, even then, encountered them he might have, but met? Not even close.
He's had his dry cleaning handed off to him by a mousy looking human girl in a shirt three sizes too big for her with huge eyes and shaking hands while a beta werewolf yelled at her in the background for being too skittish (wonder why that could possibly be), he's walked past teenage humans cleaning windows and sweeping pebbles off of sidewalks, he's had the door opened up for him by older humans in pristine uniforms outside of restaurants – but never, never once, has he stuck his hand out to a human and said hi, my name is…
He could probably count on one hand the number of times he's even been made aware that a human within a hundred feet of him even had a name. [original summary]

Review: Oh, this fic is incredibly throat closing and hope to let that feeling die. It’s a hard fic to read, because is full of feelings and so realistic in portraying a classist society base on slavery, that almost cuts you heart. This AU shows us a world where the werewolves are known and the ruling class, and the humans are bred for their entertainment, becoming pets and slaves.

Stiles is still a human and also his father, Derek, his family, Scott, Allison and the Argents are all weres. In this context, I wish the fic showed more humans, because pretty much all canon characters are weres and we only see Stiles side. On the other hand, there is so much detail and variety in the sorrows he passed, we get an ample vision of what might happen to the other humans.

While the Argents are certainly opposition to the Hales, the true villain in this fic is Talia Hale, and I confess I had a hard time believing her character; the reason being, I always seen Talia as a good alpha, someone that cared for her children and someone that wanted them happy - she is not like this in the fic! The Hales are highly dysfunctional and there aren’t many fuzzy feelings of family.

Derek gets Stiles because of a maneuver in Talia’s career and he and Stiles start a relationship that is fake, but goes on to evolve to a careful friendship and later a romantic one. The highlights of this fic are confined mostly to Derek and Stiles, and one brief scene with the Sheriff, but there is plenty of interaction with the other characters.

This is a fic to be revolted by and at the same time to make you feel sad and make you think. Proceed with caution.

As Barry nurses Len back to health, both of them quickly start to hope that he never remembers being Captain Cold as the attraction they feel for each other turns into something more without the pitfalls of being enemies to stand in their way.

Review: I adore this pairing and have been waiting for the right fic to introduce you all to it.
It's a classic amnesia fic but what I love is that Barry who should not want Len to remember is the one who wants him to remember most. Because I think we agree we all have a character who makes awful and bad decisions again and again but who we love anyway.

Review: This fic ate my soul. I couldn't put it down for around three days straight.

The Characterization is spot on, and while I've read a lot of going back in time to fix the past fics, I was really impressed by how Silver_pup changed not only Bibo's behavior but that of all the secondary characters as well.

The same events happened, but Bilbo's chanced behavior and outlook had some unexpected effects, even to Bilbo. I can't say much more without messing up the lovely twists and turns Silver_pup works in, but if you are looking for an epic, with a lot of personal character growth and suspense then this might be the fic for you.

There are some spoilers for both the Hobbit and LOTR so read with caution if this is your first time reading in the hobbit fandom.

Story 2: "Whenever there is hatred between two people, there is a bond of brotherhood of some kind" - Oscar Wilde, /De Profundis/

Review:
This lovely and long series contains two stories. The first is an AU version of Allen's journey from India to the Black Order headquarters in England. The second is a post-canon story about Kanda, Allen and Johnny being on the run.

The series has a pleasing circular nature. All the people that Allen meets or reunites with on his way to the Order are met again by Kanda on their way from the Order. While the first story is firmly a study of Allen, his character and his bisexuality, the second story is definitely Kanda's. As he asks around about Allen's character in an attempt to understand him better, he also gains much more knowledge of himself, both as he is now and as he was before he was reborn.

I did feel it got a little too philosophical in the middle, dragging the pace down, but I'm always impatient for the happy ending to happen. And it does, in a sweet, hot, and in character way. A great read.

Review: "Maul?!" Ed asked. His eyes had gone wide as he stared around at all the different stores. The place was two floors high, bigger than any market he'd ever seen, and a cacophony of lights, sounds, and enticing aromas.

This is going back a few years now, to before the manga had an ending, before Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood had been made, and when the 'ending' for the series was that of the original anime and sequel movie Conqueror of Shamballa. This ridiculously epic gen fic, with its entourage of well-written original characters plus a surprise addition back-from-the-dead, is set after the movie, as a time travel incident propels Edward and Alphonse Elric into the modern world. They are helped to survive and navigate it by the dropouts, hippies and dissidents they meet along the way.

The story is a giant collaborative effort and exceedingly well written. The original characters and their voices are distinct. It's kind of the neverending fic, but it's also a lot of fun. According to the author profile, the plot was an accidental discovery, but I couldn't really tell, though it's in no hurry to rush enjoying all the gags about Edward in the modern world and the character moments along the way. It also has the capacity to turn surprisingly dark in its serious moments -- bear in mind that Ed and Al have time travelled from 1920s Germany, unknowing of the future that was to come.

Summary: Saving Connor begins an AU of Harry Potter's school years, the Sacrifices Arc, where Harry's twin Connor (bearing a heart-shaped scar) is acknowledged as the Boy-Who-Lived. Harry and Connor have a loving relationship, and Harry plays the role of personal bodyguard/silent support for his brother to the hilt.

Review:
I admit I didn't get all the way through this. It's just so monumentally long. For comparison the Harry Potter books themselves are only 1,084,170 and I'd have a hard time reading them one after the other as well. Yet it will truly be a huge regret on my bucket list though if I do not finish this and I do not know if I would ever forgive myself. I think I got to book 5 and it is shocking.

The summary explains nothing of the book so I'll go into a little more detail. If you hate spoilers do not read on. The book starts with a huge change to the plot. In this version Harry had a twin brother named Connor and when Voldemort came to kill them when they were a year old they both received a unique scar when the killing curse backfired. The boys weren't with their parents when Voldemort came into Godric's Hollow meaning both Lily and James were alive to raise them.

This means the prophecy was also different. In this one it mentions the the younger would care for the whole world and the older would only care for the younger. Dumbledore decided that to keep the prophecy in their favour the two boys must be the younger and older. If they were not it meant that there was another boy out their the dark lord could kill to ruin the prophecy forever and they couldn't let that be so they started planning.

They pretty much condition Harry as the older twin by minutes to only care for Connor. They pretty much systematically abuse him until he cares about Connor's happiness more than his own life. They train him to be his brothers protector, train him to not care for any pleasure and tolerate any pain. If you cannot stand Lily, James and Dumbledore treating a child as less than human then don't read this.

It gets so bad at points but at the same time it's worth it for how you grow to love this version of Harry. I love him dearly to the point his losses make me cry, his hurts make me feel pain and his victories make my heart soar and I would never ask more from a book than that. This is probably a fic I would recommend to J.K Rowling herself as this fic is a castle build only on her bare template and to call it just another AU is to degrade all the clever ideas and plot that makes so much sense to the the point of nothing.

Review:
This story will forever stick in my heart as my favourite Sherlock fanfic. I rarely read gen but the emotion in this story makes me wish that there was a completely separate label for fics that have the best kinds of family love even when there is no romance.

And John is so uniquely lovable you can't even blame Sherlock for loving the grumpy eight year old wrapped in a woolly jumpers.

I've read a lot of fics where John gets to go back in time and redo all the cases and impress Sherlock with his foresight. But this fic tops them all by making you forget it's copying the episodes.

It is it's own true story with original characters that will become special to you and a storyline that makes you fall for John and Sherlock like you never even knew them. You ache for Sherlock who is presented with a tantalising puzzle in the young John that can never be solved. And John, who keeps major pieces of the puzzle to himself so that he can keep Sherlock as his and keep him safe at the same time.

I thought as I was reading this that it would be one of those fics that would go on forever until the writer lost their way. I thought there could never be an ending that would satisfy the height on which it had been brought to. I was wrong on all accounts. The ending made so much sense and I would never have thought of it in a million years. While with a fic this good I would have wanted it to last forever, no one can deny it made sense to end it where it was.

I am reccing two fics today because the first is impossible to find a link for. Summary:
Draco is sorted into Ravenclaw. A lot stays the same but somehow this little thing makes a world of difference.

Review:
I love how over dramatic Draco is in this fic. You get the feeling he always was but he never stood out because so were all the slytherins. In Ravenclaw he really stands out. He throws a tantrum and the ravenclaws find it cute and calmly leave him to it. I love how the rivalry is different between Draco and Harry because no one believes Harry that Draco is a bad person, even when Draco easily admits to only using everyone for his own gain. It makes Harry question his black and white reality.
Not to mention it feels really in character that Draco becomes smart only to try and make his father proud of him. Knowledge is power is how he justifies not being in slytherin to his cold hearted father.
Favourite moment - While Draco gets smarter every year, he still maintains the belief that his muggleborn friends' inhaler is in fact a demon amulet.

Hermione, false friend that she was, abandoned Draco and left him lumbered with Potter,
who was looking around with an air of vague alarm, as if he totally failed to recognise the
people he'd been going to class with for four years. He was also giving Draco strange
sidelong glances.
"You're asthmatic?" he said after a moment, gesturing to the amulet.
"Don't call me names when you're in my common room, Potter."

Summary:
Chaos: when the present determines the future, but the approximate present does not approximately determine the future. One gene varies, one neuron fires, one butterfly flaps its wings, and Draco Malfoy's life is completely different. Draco has always found a certain comfort in chaos. Perhaps he shouldn't.

Review:
Draco is a little out of character in this fic. Still over dramatic and terrified of everything but possessing the brain of Sherlock Holmes and the empathy of John Watson. Anyone can see from the quotes in this fic that the writer is a Sherlock fan. It gets very dark after Book 4, darker in some ways than the actual series. You can read up to then and be satisfied with the point in the story that you decide to leave it.
I love the fact the story feels like a childhood frienship slipping into romance in an entirely unforced way. Harry and his butterflies really take the cake.

“I know it might be a bit…” Harry’s mouth twists. “But I was thinking of your thing about chaos.”
“The butterfly effect,” Draco supplies.
“Yeah. I thought it might be a nice symbol.”
Draco laughs, though it’s quite breathy. “The butterfly isn’t a symbol of chaos,” he says.
“No?”
“No, Harry, it’s a symbol of—”
Draco looks up at him, and he has to physically bite his tongue to keep himself from finishing the sentence.
You, Draco wants to say but doesn’t. It’s a symbol of you, of the way you feel about me, of the way I feel about you.

Review:
So I needed a break from 1D and this fic just jumped at me. A crossover between Harry Potter and Glee, where everything from Harry Potter happened and it’s been a few years since the war, while Glee cannon follows season 2. Harry and Teddy Lupin are the main characters to crossover, but we do see Ron and Hermione and the best surprise Ginny Weasley and Daphne Greengrass.

The best thing about this fic is the fact Harry is just such a cute and precious dad and Teddy overwhelms me with how well written he is. I love kid fic where the fic is important, but at the same time the central plot is still interesting and this fic just delivers both: we have a lovely romance plot full of drama and sweetness and we have the family unit Harry and Kurt start creating.

Harry is more sassy than Kurt and so damaged that it makes me truly happy to see the growth he gets along the fic, and how healthy portrayed his relationship with Kurt is, which makes the fic move along really well, without turning into a Sabrina novel. There is plenty of bullying and Kurt having to deal with it, but Harry helps him get confidence and Kurt returns with the comfort we all know Harry always needed.

Will is his usual terrible self, so Harry gets a lot of Glee mentoring time, which is both hilarious and delicious - specially when he sang What makes you beautiful and made me cry, because I can’t get rid of 1D. Harry helps not only Kurt, but all the Glee kids and Shannon, which made my heart melt and wish they found a great guy for her.

Anyhow, this fic is cute and funny and full of dramatic content, so it’s just that well rounded reading. I love the fact the author managed to discuss the HP canon in a subtle way, while still charging the war, the nightmares and the flashbacks with the importance they deserve. All Glee character are well represented, Rachel is her annoying self, Finn plays the big brother so awkwardly and Santana is quite amazing, which is no news, but always worth mentioning.

So just go on, read it, comment, and let me know what you thought. It’s one of the best crossovers I read and one of the best in both fandoms.

“Am I supposed to? I mean, I can just see it in your eyes. They’re brighter than the last time I saw you.”
“When was that?”
“The night I first met you,” Harry answered. “You were wasted out of your mind, no life behind your eyes, whatsoever. Your buddy Zayn came stumbling in and threw me against a wall because he thought I took photos of you to sell to a magazine or something. Why would I take pictures of you drunk off your ass? You famous or something?”

Or, the one where Louis is the star of a reality TV show and wants Harry to be on it, and Harry still hasn't forgotten the drugged out Louis that he met in a restaurant bathroom four years ago.
Also featuring Liam as an up and coming party planner, Zayn as Louis' best friend and greatest trigger, Niall as Harry's roommate and local bartending legend and Eleanor, Sophia and Perrie as design students who bring them all together. [original summary]

Review: I’m starting this review by giving a hug for all 1D fan’s reading this, this week was a roller coaster, so just hugs and I’m here if anyone needs someone to talk.

It was really hard to finish reading this fic, not because of it, but just because it was a really a week full of news and it made me think a lot about how much this fic fit perfectly with how I felt with the whole deal of Zayn leaving the band and Louis breaking things off with Eleanour.

The reason this fic is so good is that the author makes great points about the life in the spotlight. And this is so relevant this week that I felt I needed to review it anyway, even if I wanted more than anything to pretend this fandom didn’t exist for a while. Basically Louis is a reality show star, and his family was kind of like the Kardashians. It’s an AU, but we see all of the band, plus significant others and Ben Winston, the guys’ producer.

Imagine a reality show, but shown from the inside, with how things are recorded and how invested people end up being when their lives are filmed and edit and dished out. This fic is an AU, but it’s so true to what we see of the band, that I thought it was very genius. It makes you think about the pressure the boys are under and how we never really get the real version of them, even when they try being as truthful as possible. The fic also highlights perfectly how gossip columns can create the most incredible stories to sell more: the story is full of stunts, drama and fights, all generated by the public view of them.

While it is centered in Louis and Harry, the author managed the show all characters and to create plots for both the story and the show. The best part for me is how endearing Sophia, Perrie, Eleanor and Danielle are, which is super rare in the fandom. There isn’t bashing, and they are very significant in the fabric of the plot. Liam, Zayn and Niall are a bit out of character, specially Zayn, but you still see some great scenes that are almost canonical. Louis is perfect, even at his bottom , while he deals with his addictions.

I’m in a angst phase, and apparently a drug use one, but I promise is not a fetish thing. I just been completely in love with how people developed flawed characters that I still want to hug and cherish. Harry is very adorable here, thought escaping the more visible flaws, and almost the perfect guy. He has quite a temper, but I think the author really mixes cute and loveable Harry with fierce and angry Harry.

Zayn steals the scene for sure, and how hard it was to see him in this fic and imagine him out of the band. *cries silently* Anyway, he is the best character in my opinion, full of ambiguity and layers. Be aware he really triggers Louis, he is one of the reasons for Louis to spiraled so far into addiction and he is probably the person that continues to pull Louis right back into it.

At last, I warned for Alternative Endings, and the reason for that is that the author gives two possible endings, I liked both of them, but I know she comment that a lot of people didn’t like the lighter ending, so be warned that you won’t have a definite version of it, but will have to choose from one of them.

Summary:

When NHL star Patrick Kane's off-ice antics finally get him into trouble for the last time, captain and best friend Jonathan Toews has one final trump card to keep him from being traded: marriage...to each other. But between being the first openly gay hockey players, facing down a lockout, and the fact that Patrick has been in love with Jonny for years, will these two ever be able to work past their miscommunication to realize that their marriage may not be as much of a sham as they think it is?

Review:

First things first, a disclaimer: I am very new to hockey fandom. As such, I consider myself utterly unqualified to review the authors' characterization of the people appearing in this fic. I'll be reccing this almost as an original work.

But if you're fine with that, and if you love the fake relationship trope and all that it entails, then Marry Me A Little is the fic for you. It features such timeless classics as 'I've been in love with you since we first met', tooootally platonic sleep cuddling, emotional constipation, 'all our friends/family are surprisingly unsurprised by our relationship', fear of exposing one's unrequited feelings, the angstful suppression of said feelings for the sake of the fake relationship, running hot and cold in the attempt to suppress said feelings, and more communication failure than you can shake a hockey stick at. And let's not forget the dramatic reveal of fully requited feelings and the ensuing Happily Ever After.

But seriously, folks. So much communication failure. So much communication failure that multiple side characters in the fic make a point to tell the two of them to pull their heads out of their asses and actually communicate about important things. In fact, my only serious gripe with the fic is how bafflingly resistant Patrick and Jonny are to calmly talking things out. They go through multiple cycles of conflict and resolution throughout the fic, but with so little genuine discussion going on, the resolutions to their issues feel superficial and incomplete, provided that they're resolved at all.

What makes up for it is the sense that other characters notice and have opinions on the miscommunication roller coaster that is Jonny and Patrick's marriage. bessyboo and thisissirius don't just make the rest of the cast silent or blindly supportive bystanders. The vast majority of the people that appear in this fic have their own observations and opinions on the marriage, and though they're all supportive of the relationship, that doesn't stop some of them from expressing reservations about this or that consequence of the two of them being married and out while still being prominent hockey players. That level of detail and consideration creates a wondrously complex narrative that keeps the fic from becoming hyperfocused on Jonny and Patrick and their respective emotional struggles.

But that attention to detail isn't restricted to the people that appear in the fic. Even various news outlets offer their two cents on the relationship through a series of mock articles. Personally, I doubt that the media would be as kind to the first out and married hockey players in the league as they are in the fic, (which is probably why there's no mock FOX News article), but hey, this is fanfiction. We're only required to abide by reality as much as is necessary for the purposes of the story.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this fic to every hockey RPF fan out there, because obviously YKINMK and I won't assume that everyone is a fan of the fake relationship trope. But if you are, and you've been hesitating to read this because of reasons that may or may not include its prodigious length, then I would definitely say to take the leap. Don't worry, I won't chirp you (much) for taking more than four days to finish it.

Author's Summary:
Dean goes to pick Sam up from Stanford and ends up finding more than he bargained for.

Review:
The clue is in the title - this is a series of five fics, set in five different parts of San Francisco, wherein Sam is addicted to five different drugs. Instead of finding his brother at Stanford as we see in canon, Dean finds him in all sorts of places facing different challenges, both mundane and supernatural. Every fic has the same beginning paragraph and the same summary - and it's awesome to see how different the direction of each is despite this. The common theme of the fics is that Sam is taking drugs to deal with his psychic powers and their effect on his psyche.

rei-c's worldbuilding is amazing. The fics feature a wealth of different mythologies, and the author does justice to every one, despite how different they are. Hindu, Chinese, Vodou, Irish, Norse, and Wicca mythologies are all written with confidence, and if rei-c isn't an expert on all of them I certainly can't tell.

The other common theme of the series is Wincest, and healing brought to Sam by the arrival of Dean. Their relationship is definitely always a welcome comfort after the hurt, and there is a bit of the old being saved by true love trope - though the fics are too well-written to be called anything near saccharine.

Though drugs are a big part of the series, they are never glorified or portrayed as glamorous, and we clearly see that they aren't doing Sam any good. I wouldn't describe this series as depressing despite the heavy theme of drug addiction - because thankfully, there's always a Dean-shaped light at the end of the tunnel.

The warnings apply to the whole series rather then all of the fics, so make sure to look at their individual warnings.

Summary: Sherlock and John grow up spending every summer together. Their mothers' attempts to play matchmaker only fuel their mutual resentment and scorn. But then, one summer...  (Swan Princess AU)

Review:
This fic is pretty much the example of don't judge a book by it's cover. I would not have given this fic a second look if it had not been on someones rec list. And I am not a fan of the swan princess because a prince that stupid shouldn't rule over anyone one day. Which is why this fic literally is the nicest surprise. It will grab your heart in a way only love can. You grow up with John and Sherlock from the sweet tooth rotting sweetness of when Sherlock is born to their constant fighting as they get older to realising what they are to each other just as John's about to go away.

Rather than the thrilling mystery and fondness you feel over canon Sherlock and John, you feel like you know everything about the characters in the story from very early on and not only do you like these characters but that these characters at it for you. I dare anyone to read this story and swear they are not soul crushingly in deep love with both Sherlock and John.

Best of all I love how pennin_ink manages to write Sherlock. A couple of times over the story the writer writes a paragraph about how Sherlock looks to another and heart in your throat and beating out your chest your mind latches onto it. And it's usually something simple like Shelock walking down the stairs or being sad in the woods. It certainly is inspiring to any fan artist out there who want to paint themselves something.

Don't just listen to this rec though, check out many others that can be found through google. The least articulate usually show someone scoffing at the premise of Sherlock as a swan princess and ending in a computer being heaved dramatically out of a window at the sheer emotion the fic grips you with. I admit the fic got me so bad I immediately went out looking for a swan necklace myself and only found a tiny charm which is now my favourite.

Title: If All Else Fails
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis/Stargate SG:1
Pairing: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay, Jack O'Neill/Sam Carter, Daniel Jackson/Vala Mal Doran
Categories: First Time, Romance, Crossover, Angst, Action/Adventure,
Length: First installment: 69k, total for series: 221k
Warnings: Violence, Rape/Non-con (off screen and never detailed)

Summary: Technically, it’s known as Operation Phoenix, but that’s a little too optimistic for Jack, who calls it the WAFGON plan: We’re All Fucked; Get Out Now.

Why You Should Read This: This series starts with the Trust taking over the SGC. In response, Jack sends out as many gate teams as he can, instructing them to try for Atlantis. SG1 is off-world when things come to a head, and thus must make their way to Atlantis with the knowledge that they're leaving Jack - and others, such as Cassie - behind on Earth to face who knows what consequences. Atlantis, meanwhile, must deal with being cut off from Earth and struggle with some pressing question: do they fight to save Earth? How can they rescue more of their people, including the families of those posted to Atlantis?

At the moment, there are 5 complete works in this series. The series itself is listed as incomplete, however. The first installment chronicles SG-1’s journey to Atlantis, as well as how Atlantis has begun to deal with suddenly being an independent colony. John and Rodney’s relationship doesn’t happen until the third installment, so be aware of that, but this fic is so good that I didn't even mind. Very well written, with an excellent focus on a broad cast of characters.

Summary: Juice is a little boy in a big man's world. Since he so clearly just wants a loving family, we gave him a hot Mommy AND Daddy.

The Juice-centric fix-it AU to end all fix-it AUs for this fandom. This is nothing but gratuitous gratification of our desire to see Juice and Gemma happy, functional, and loved. You don't even have to have watched the series to understand this fic, it bears almost no resemblance to canon anyway.

Review: This is a wonderfully indepth contemporary romance story. The authors do a great job in defining the difference in each narrator and character.

I love all the details they packed into creating a healthy well-balanced relationship for all the characters, without sacrificing realistic misunderstandings and issues with someone entering a new non-traditional relationship. Particularly someone who never planned or had any experience in either the BDSM or LGBTQ communities before.

This is definitely a Explicit story and one that has a lot of varied kinks, so please make sure to read through the fic's tags before you start the story.
