Title: Life Sentence
Fandom: Fast & Furious
Pairing: Brian O'Conner/Dominic Toretto
Categories: AU, Action/Adventure, Case Fic, Romance
Length: Long (29k)
Warnings: Threatened Dub-con

Summary: “Sit down,” the doctor said. He took blood, three vials filling up dark red. “Any medical conditions?”

“No,” Dom said, and then his mouth kept going and said, “What if I want to volunteer for bonding?”

The doctor peered at him over the glasses. “Do you want to volunteer for bonding?”

It hung in the air. Dom felt it like a noose around his throat, squeezing. Twenty-five to life. “Yeah,” he said.

Review: An interesting take on bonding fics. In a world where bonding is one of the only way to get out of prison, Dom is desperate to get out of Lomac and Brian isn't given much of a choice but to agree, or risk the lives of a lot of innocent civilians.

Despite the complete change in worlds, and meetings, this fic manages to keep the high-octain action of the films, while keeping the characters from becoming too Out of Character. There is a large threat of 'Morality made them do it' sex throughout the first half of the story, but it is resolved before anything is forced on the characters. And their relationship is allowed to grow organically into a happy ending.

Even if you aren't very familiar with the fandom, this fic is self-contained it might be worth giving a try if the premise appeals to you.

An Ever-Fixed Mark by Chibifukurou (Pg13)

Title: An Ever-Fixed Mark
Fandom: Fast & Furious
Pairing: Brian O'Conner/Dominic TorettoBrian O'Conner/Mia Toretto
Categories: Domestic, Family,
Length: Short (7k)
Warnings: Partner infidelity, Panic Attacks

Author on LJ: Anonymous
Website: Anonymous

Summary: Soulmarks never lie. But people do.

Review: While short this fic packs a nice punch. It is a soulmate AU, that takes soulmates in a different direction.

What if soulmates weren't necessarily people, but could be places to? How would that affect how you related to the world around you? How would you know who you were supposed to be with if more than one person made up the place your soul called home?

This is based off the first movie, so Brian is undercover for most of the fic, and there is some infidelity so if that squicks you, please don't read.

An Ever-Fixed Mark
Title: Where you're meant to Be
Fandom: Fast & Furious Series
Pairing: Brian O'Conner/Dominic Toretto/Carter Verone
Categories: Angst, AU, Fluff, Hurt/Comfort, Romance, Supernatural
Length: Medium(14k)
Warnings: Forced Marriage, Character death

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] wolfspirit07
Author Website: Casey Wolfe’s Ao3

Summary: Brian is a wolf broken and alone, running from a pack who would sooner kill him as pawn him off. Carter, he has his own demons haunting him as he runs Miami's underbelly. Then there's Alpha Dom, hunting for the wolf that was supposed to be his and surprised by what he ends up finding.

Review: This isn’t a serious story, but it is so cute and fluffy that it is my catnip. No pun intended.

A shapeshifter AU where Brian runs away from home, falls in love, and then falls in love again. So that he, Carter, and Torettos all get to be one big furry family.

The plot is a little predictable and fast moving, but its a nice fast paced read.

Review:
After letting Dom go at the end of the first movie, Brian gets busted down the the worst undercover work the department has: rent boy. Which is what he's doing when Dom shows up and you can imagine just how well *that* goes over.

From the above summary, you'd probably imagine this is a slash fic; surprisingly not only is it not slash, but I don't think I could honestly call it pre-slash. The friendship is what's front and center in this fic, not romance, and I personally think the story is better for it. Dom and Brian are both in character and their relationship recovers quietly and organically. As a bonus you have a fantastic cameo for Mia and Tanner is pretty awesome. Unfortunately the plot is a bit uneven, but that's made up for by consistently good writing and some lovely hurt/comfort moments. Ideal for folks who like the canon relationship between Brian and Dom or who are in the mood for friendship!fic.

Review:
After Dom spends half a year moping over Brian in Mexico, Vince and Leon have finally had enough. One phone call later, and suddenly they're all heading to Arizona where Brian's family (and, for the moment, Brian himself) lives.

This fic starts a bit slow, but once Brian and Dom meet up it really starts to fly. While I love Brian and Dom (as always), what really made this fic work for me were the secondary characters: Rome, who I never liked in canon, but who I'm starting to appreciate in fanon; Vince and Leon, who almost never get time in fic, but who are both excellent; and the O'Conners (who I think might actually renamed characters from another show) who are beautifully handled and really enhance the story. Bonus: the O'Conner ranch has horses! (I'm a sucker for horses.)

All in all, a solid F&F fic ideal for those who are looking to take a break from "Brian and Dom in Mexico" stories and/or folks who enjoy an excellent ensemble cast.

Review:
When Brian offers Dom the keys at the end of the first movie, Dom invites Brian along. Good thing, too, because Brian proves to be an absolute genius at going on the lam.

One thing that always bugged me about the first F&F movie was the way that Dom gets into a car accident that absolutely should have killed him and yet is presumed to be completely healthy and capable of going on the run. This is a point raised in a lot of F&F fic, but I like the way this story handles it: by having Brian come along and handle those first few days, when Dom can barely walk, much less drive and evade police. Even better is the intelligence behind all of the various police evasions -- Brian's actions in this fic are completely unlike anything else I've read in the fandom and yet when all is said and done if I were evading the police I'd totally go his route. It may not be conventional, but that's exactly why it succeeds.

On top of all of the fantastic plot, you've also got great characterizations, especially with regards to Dom and, later in the story, Rome. I really enjoyed Dom's slow realization of his feelings for Brian and Rome's snarky support. Mix in Brian (so much more interesting than he was in the movies), Letty (a small part, but it packs a punch), and Tanner (even smaller part, but completely brilliant) and you have a great ensemble in a great story.
