Summary: "I hope you don’t take this the wrong way," Dorian said, "but I’ve been preparing for this role my entire life. You, on the other hand, seem far less capable of convincing anyone that you’re in love with anyone, much less me."
Klaus and Dorian have to pretend to be married for a case. It goes about as well as can be expected.
Review: Not an unusual trope to see in this fandom, but I can't remember another example of it I enjoyed quite this much.
The fic takes its main premise seriously -- and so, despite Dorian's doubts, do all of the people Dorian and Klaus meet at the grand retreat on a private island that they have to infiltrate for the purposes of their case, including some of Dorian's old friends and acquaintances. Klaus and Dorian have worked together in their own abrasive way for so many years now that their rapport and partnership actually carry the ruse, and as the story develops people around them proceed to make meaningful relationship observations about how they do things wrong, hurt each other, and just generally rub each other up the wrong way. Much is learned in really interesting ways, and the duo get their chances to display how much they care about one other as they start to unpick the established patterns of their relationship.
Altogether very satisfying story. The case file and the interactions of Klaus and Dorian with the other guests, individually and as a couple, are fascinating, the perceptions of Dorian and his homosexuality highlighted by those interactions are great insights for the character and a look beneath the carefree flamboyance. Klaus gets to do the odd bit of violence to keep himself happy. What more could you ask for?

Summary: Klaus attends a cousin's wedding at Schloss Eberbach. So does Dorian, for very different reasons.
Review: The above summary? Tells you nothing important about this fic whatsoever. So Dorian is undercover at Scloss Eberbach trying to steal the painting again, surrounded by Klaus' family and old family friends, and Klaus encounters someone he has a History with, and Dorian sees Klaus' encounter, and lots of conclusions are eventually drawn and remarkably little is particularly solidly confirmed (I was astonished on re-read to realise how open this remains, and how little is said) but an awful lot of things shift in the relationship between Klaus and Dorian as a consequence.
This one is an old favourite, which I stumbled across anew by accident recently, and which promptly returned me to reading in this fandom again.
I guess that the driving factor of a lot of the fics in this fandom is getting to that moment when Klaus' epic restraint and uptightness crumbles, but this time around the journey is so intense and that moment so earned, and I think that's the thing that stuck in my head about this fic for fifteen years. Klaus and Dorian are both taken very seriously, and the background is deadly serious for all that those events are not discussed explicitly, and it just has such a weight to it, in a fandom which is often not particularly serious. Also, the progression of Klaus re-evaluating his life and taking his choices in hand is as glorious as the single-minded way he insists upon doing it.
Note that there are some consent considerations in the unfolding of the relationship which are also left somewhat open to interpretation, which are a part of the fascination of the scenario that plays out here, but may prove unsettling for some depending on how are interpreted.

Review: The Major's mission is to protect the Christopher Street Parade floats. In doing so, he learns a little about homosexuals, and about himself. As a consequence, he decides to give Eroica a chance.
This fic is slightly AU, in that the Cold War background has been discarded for a more modern setting. While that does take away one of the core elements of canon, in the end it may well be necessary; I can understand why Klaus would be reluctant to relax and have relationships when Communist spies keep sneaking about. I didn't even notice the change until the fifth re-reading, so I certainly wouldn't say that the setting was a problem. As for the characters - well, it's usually Klaus's POV, and Heather Sparrows sold me on the premise that Klaus could gracefully admit in his head to being homosexual, so that's certainly proof of her talents at characterization. The Alphabets, Eroica's men and Dorian himself all had their own opportunities to shine. As a plus, I also enjoyed the OCs, who were the civilians running the Cologne parade, and who use a mixture of tact and toughness to get Klaus to let go of his homophobia.

Review: "After twenty-five years of resisting Eroica’s advances, Klaus finally gives in, only to have the Earl drop a bombshell that convinces the Major that the world he knew ended without his knowledge and was replaced with a cruel parody. Nobody breathe or the house of cards will collapse."
I usually can't believe in AUs with characters who reveal that, all along, they were actually a secret agent/royalty/Swedish, and thus their behavior was all just part of their fake persona. Margaret does it right, though - especially since the secret that Eroica thinks he's revealing isn't entirely true, or even the whole of the story. (Plus, Klaus gets even with a heck of a reveal near the end.)
This fic has action, and lots of it. For those who like intrigue, spies, and caper stories, this is the story for you. (Bonus points to the author for being willing to age everyone so the fic could be set post-9/11, and not still in the Cold War of canon. Canon's great, but sometimes one wants to see different political issues.) There's also attention paid to minor characters, including one cameo that is an excellent projection of who a young boy from the Middle East in the 1970s could have grown up to be. That's rare in a fandom that often forgets about everyone other than the leads. Mind you, some characters might seem OOC, or derailed - but just stick with Ms. Price, and eventually you'll find out what's really behind the wizard's curtain. Finally, and in conclusion, hoyay that has basis in canon should not be passed up by the discerning slash reader.

Summary: Meteors crash into Earth, and whoever gets hit gains amazing superpowers. Of course, when Eroica is hit, Hilarity Ensues.
Review: If you know Eroica, then you need no further encouragement. If you don't... hmmm. From Eroica With Love is/was a manga series written & drawn in the height of the Cold War, featuring a gay-and-proud-of-it aristocratic British thief [Dorian of Gloria, alias Eroica] and a grumpy aristocratic West German NATO Intelligence Major [Klaus Heinz von dem Eberbach]. Hey, they're both aristocrats - so much in common already! Er, not really. Eroica irritates Klaus to hell and back, and Klaus constantly threatens and/or punches Eroica. They are sometimes rivals ("who will get the classified reports first?") and sometimes working together, by order or because the Russians are their mutual enemy. Within a few volumes, Eroica professes his love for Klaus, and he gets shot down - then, and every other time. The fandom tends to think that the Major doth protest too much. Those (few) fans who aren't looking for Ho-Yay can still enjoy the series as a light-hearted spy comedy.
In Fabulousman, the aforementioned meteors happen, and those with powers band together. Major Eberbach is unwillingly made a part of the new "good" superheroes' group. Not having been struck, he has no powers, but that never stopped Klaus from kicking ass before, and he tends to think the heroes are incompetant civilians, anyway. Dorian has the broadest range of powers in the group, and is thus one of the leaders... but that doesn't make him any better at catching Klaus' attention. At least, not for a while. But they do get to do some wacky crimefighting in the meantime! There are some serious moments, but most of the stories are just good fun. {My personal favorite drabble? The one about getting Klaus a hero name.} As a plus, there are many illustrations, too.
