Peter wishes he had something and finds that having it might be worse.
There's something about this set of stories that I find deeply satisfying and not just because it's one of the few RG fics I can still find on the 'net these days. Set four months after Egon is almost killed by a 'mundane' (for their line of work, anyway) but no less frightening accident, this story features the always classic premise of someone wishing for something and then realizing it isn't actually what they want. That it's a somewhat love-lorn Peter doing the wishing makes it all the better.
While I won't deny that I wish the stories were longer, the characterization and overall storytelling make up for any complaints I have on that score and beyond. Even if you're not a huge fan of RG, I still highly recommend checking this out, especially if you're looking for a great story with a happy ending.

Spontaneous Combustion: Peter and Egon meet. Heat ensues.
Catalyst: Peter and Egon find a third roommate.
Adaptations: The guys move in. Egon meets Peter's dad.
Impact: Peter's dream comes to life. He's rather it didn't.
Review:
I admit, this story has a special place in my heart - it's the story that first got me into this fandom in the first place. Essentially, it's an origins story , chronicling how Peter, Egon, and Ray first met and became friends at Columbia University, but with a slashy AU twist in that Peter and Egon fall in love and begin a romantic relationship.
It's a very sweet and endearing story, the sort of thing I reread when I want something that'll make me melt a bit. It's also a good story for those who are unfamiliar or only superficially familiar with the characters. Lethe has a wonderful grasp of character voices. Her voices are so distinctive, in fact, that despite the annoyance of unmarked POV changes, it's actually remarkably easy to pick up on within a few sentences. It's a very character-driven piece. She especially focuses on Peter and fleshing out the the caring, vulnerable part of him beneath his sarcastic and egotistical veneer, but also spends plenty of time on characterizing Egon and Ray as more than brainy and enthusiastic respectively. All in all, simply adorable.

Review:
The Real Ghostbusters fandom is particularly strong in the h/c and smarm arena so there are scads to choose from, but this is one of my favorites not just in RGB but in any fandom. It's based off the episode "The Fix" from the seventies cop show Starsky and Hutch. The author takes the premise and translates it over beautifully. Mara's writing style is quite elegant and vivid - even knowing basic plot line doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the reading experience.
Essentially, Peter gets in over his head when he takes on a solo bust while the other three are out of town (the titular "simple class four") and is held captive. Instead of the typical intimidation and/or physical torture that would then ensue, the villain here instead gets him hooked on heroin. It is a hurt scenario that I find personally to be truly horrifying.
On the flip side, the comfort side of the story is just as good as the guys rally around Peter. I found the comforting particularly poignant in this story because it was really all that could be done. There is little medical aid for the situation and Peter has to struggle through the withdrawal with only the support of his teammates. All three of the others get a chance to shine in the situation.
