Review:
Even after all these years and multiple reads on my part, this series has never failed to make me smile. Both for its humor, of which there is plenty, and the way the author manages to make Victor and Mac’s odd little budding friendship/relationship seem natural and, in the end, not just possible but probable (as well as highly satisfying). Best of all, this is a series that even readers unfamiliar with the movie/television series can enjoy with minimum confusion or ‘research’.

What happens when a Consortium assassin spots his doppelganger?
An incredible amount, according to these authors. The Double the Fun series is one of the first and, incidentally, one of the few series to ever make me appreciate a multiple-partner relationship. This is saying a lot for me since I tend to avoid those kinds of fics as I find them a little on the unbelievable side. Even so, Double the Fun is equal parts fun and incredibly smutty – no lie, I would say 75% if this story consists of a sex scene – and also boasts an intriguing premise and crossover.
Despite the fact that I found the initial getting together of Alex and Vic a little, well, contrived since it happens almost immediately with little to no supposition beforehand, the rest of the fic and eventual inclusion of others in the relationship wasn’t forced and made me happy to see them so open and willing to share, love, and be together. While I wouldn’t say that this is, necessarily, the definitive Once a Thief/X-Files crossover, it does make a run for the finish line and made me scour the ‘net for more crossovers like it.

Author's Summary: The boys get sent on an assignment. All on their own, since the Director decides that Li Ann would be too conspicuous on this one. Mac takes advantage of their isolation to make Victor an offer he can't refuse. Well, he could, but does he want to?
Review:
It seems like almost every single fandom out there has a story where, for whatever reason, the two main characters must pose as a couple – be them gay or straight – for an extended period of time. While the circumstances change for each story, the roots are the same. Going Deep is definitely OaT’s prime example of this and a wonderful one to boot.
AnneZo does an excellent job of harkening back to the short-lived but no less fun television show, with its odd cases and even odder bevy of original characters, even while sticking true to the main characters and the relationships between them. Vic and Mac aren’t suddenly best friends in the story, though there is the sense of shared misery/camaraderie that we saw in both movie and show, and struggle with the mounds of unresolved sexual tension between them from start to finish. Don’t let that be a deterrent to you, however, because AnneZo does a superb job of taking us to the edge of our (and their) patience before finally throwing us a bone (and then building the tension right back up again).
Another thing the author has in her corner is the overall plot, which isn’t just a device used to get these two together but is actually entertaining and engrossing. I wanted to learn why those couples had gone missing and, more than that, I wanted to know if Vic and Mac would be the next one. Really, all things told, if you’re anything like me and love ‘undercover’ stories, you should really check this one out. It’s a classic in the Oat fandom and well worth the read.

Author's Summary: [SPOILERS CONTAINED FOR THE SERIES!] For those unfamiliar with my series, Drowning Sorrows builds around the series John Woo's Once a Thief, and the growing relationship between Victor Mansfield and Mac Ramsey. At the end of the TV series, they were apparently killed in an explosion. In *my* world, they took the chance to leave the country, heading for Europe, where they made a life for themselves as security experts... and thieves.
Review:
There are very few stories in the ‘Once a Thief’ fandom that actually dwell on or even acknowledge the ending of the television series; an understandable reflex given how the series ended, which is to say, a little bit shocking and a lot unbelievable. Really, what fan is going to believe Vic and Mac's "tragic ending"? Not I and not Lianne Burwell, that's for sure.
Drowning Sorrows is, in my opinion, a fine example of taking the unbelievable aspects of what we're given and spinning it in a way that makes it not only believable but probable to boot. Starting just before the series end, Lianne builds on the tumultuous relationship between Vic and Mac, the spiraling sexual tension between the entire team, and the fact that neither is particularly happy with their lives or their ‘job’.
I’ll admit there are a few hiccups in this story, things that bother me because they aren’t how I would have grasped them, but even so, the series is well worth the read. Additionally, as a bonus for some, the last story in the series has a delightful crossover aspect between ‘Once a Thief’ and ‘From Eroica With Love’ with certain liberties taken. Don’t worry if you don’t know the source material by the way, I hadn’t even heard of Eroica the first time I read this.
