Summary: "Look," McKay says, pushing John away firmly, "not that I don't love excessively masculine bonding activities as much as the next guy, but in case you hadn't noticed from the stylish blue panels on my jacket--" and he points both of his index fingers toward the jacket John's letting go of--"I'm a civilian. My involvement in your homoerotic military rituals begins and ends at target practice."
Review: I don't usually rec this kind of fic-- not because I dislike the topic at hand (on the contrary!), but because it tends to be too personal for me. I, myself, identify as asexual (or, more specifically, a panromantic asexual) and as such I relate heavily to John in this fanfic. Regardless of how you identify, I hope you give this fic a chance. It may not be for everyone (and all individuals seeking porn? Skip this fic!), but with any luck you'll enjoy it as hugely as I did.
Now this fic is AU, but only in a minor way. Instead of DADT (Don't Ask, Don't Tell) and the typical homophobia associated with the military, this universe is the exact opposite. Men in the military aren't just encouraged to sleep with each other, but they're almost expected to. Although I don't know the specifics, it appears that the leaders in the military are expected to sleep with as many of their men as they can as a method of bonding with their troops to create feelings of safety and togetherness. Those individuals that don't comply aren't considered to be a "team player" and only recently have the men even been allowed to marry while in the military-- the strict policy was once to never send fathers or husbands into battle.
In this fic, John is asexual-- though, he doesn't identify himself as such just as none of the men in the military (or anyone else in this universe, for that matter) identify as gay or straight (nor any other type of sexuality). They just are. John's long since accepted how the military runs and consents to sex every time he participates. Though he's not exactly happy about it, he does what needs to be done until he finally arrives at Atlantis and everything changes (for the better, though John is slow to see it as such).

Author's summary: Sherlock is asexual. John is not. Possibly, Sherlock should have told him this before they had sex.
Sherlock's canon asexuality isn't dealt with very often in fanfic, so I was thrilled to discover this story, which not only addresses said asexuality, but does so in a compelling fashion as John and Sherlock navigate a relationship that can work for both of them, without either one doing anything they don't want to do. I'm not sure it could work for most pairings, but it works for John and Sherlock and is positively fascinating to read.

Summary: After Sherlock messes up the apartment again Mrs. Hudson does something drastic.
Review: This fic is absolutely hilarious, and even better the characterizations of John and Sherlock are spot on.
While I'm not a big fan of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, having only seen a few episodes, I have to admit that the crossover is surprisingly perfect. The Queer eye team pushes John outside of his boundaries without being too pushy. They also find ways around Sherlock's reticence to change.
This fic is just lovely all around, and while I do wish there had been more interaction between the Queer eye team and the secondary characters from the Sherlock Universe (particularly Mycroft's opinion on other people messing with Sherlock's life) the lack didn't really hinder the story.

Review: I have a real soft spot for dark fics and asexual romances and Kantayra's Flesh and Blood is one of my favorites.
While not officially billed as a asexual romance, since Sasori and Deidara do have sex, Kantayra writes the story in such a way that Sasori sexuality is shown to be very asexual in nature. Deidara on the other hand is shown to be a very sexual person. What I love about this dynamic is how the relationship is shown as a continuation of their close partnership, instead of a byproduct of long repressed sexual feelings. Deidara's flirtatious nature isn't glossed over, but neither is Sasori's complete lack of interest in experiencing the human condition.
The casual nature of the descriptions of violence is very enjoyable and makes Sasori come alive. A lot of authors fall into making their dark characters think about how awful what they're doing is, but Kantayra just makes the violence and gore part of the story. Sasori doesn't think about how killing people is morally wrong or worry about how it will affect his soul, he's doing it because he feels it's necessary and he enjoys practicing his 'art'.
Fans of dark series like Dexter will probably find this series particularly interesting, since Sasori is portrayed as a sociopath, not dissimilar to Dexter. Naruto fans should be aware that except for a few cameos the main Naruto cast is not shown at all.
