It's my birthday! (Well, it was last Wednesday, at any rate.) I've decided to celebrate by asking ya'll to rec some of my favorite things. Here's a list:P
Harlequin, Marriage of Convenience, Amnesia, and/or Bonding fic: I recently read a Harlequin book for the first time in years, and I was surprised by the fact that I, well, hated it. Yet I still love fanfic Harlequin. I think the difference is that most romance novels (even these days) feature a nominally independent woman who is really desperate and lonely and can't seem to cope with life without a man. (Look, there's one! Grab him before he gets away!) Fanfic Harlequin, on the other hand, usually features two (often male;) characters who are both getting something out of the situation and who have equal, if different, strengths and weaknesses. Yum.
Small Fandoms: I love a whole slew of small fandoms and I'm always looking for more. I'll be doubly grateful for Tin Man (Cain/Glitch) and 3:10 to Yuma (Ben/Dan) fic. Yuma has been especially difficult for me, as every comm and personal LJ devoted to the show seems to be graphics and/or ad heavy, and they tend to crash my browser, so specific links to every single part would be very much appreciated.
New fic and/or fic only found at author's websites: I have most of the archives covered, but these days not everyone (or even the majority) post their fics at said archives, so I'm looking for any stories I might have missed in any of the fandoms I rec in, either because they're really new, they're on small and/or multi-fandom archives, or they're on the author's website. Note that I pretty much never read multi-chapter stories on LJ (unless the story has been broken up strictly for length, rather than because the author likes post her stories as she writes), and single-file links are always preferable to the same story broken in chapters.
Thanks in advance for being such fabulous folks!
Things to keep in mind:
-Recced stories can be any length, any fandom, and any pairing, as long as they fit the theme
-You don't need to write a review (unless you want to). All that you need to include are title, author, and link to the story (all parts if there are more than one).
That said, have at it!

I just spent all day Sunday reading
instead of doing my laundry. SO WORTH IT! A touch of mpreg (but not squickily so), not-confusing time travel, and a lovely Jack/Ianto love story that hops centuries while staying true to character.I have so many recs for Slings & Arrows. Have you seen it? If not, you must, if you like at all: funny, smart television; theatre; Shakespeare; Paul Gross; drama, comedy, and did I mention smart tv?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
I've tried to look through threetentrain, but haven't had much success with finding fic. There is a Dan/Ben comm called bridalsuite -- that's the one that's most promising, and also the one that keeps crashing my browser. Though it might not be the graphics, but rather the ads. Ad-supported comms suck up a ridiculous amount of CPU.
And scads of small fandoms that I'm already reading and looking for recs for! Chuck, Good Omens, DH4, SQUEEEEEEE! Thank you!
(BTW, I have watched Slings and Arrows and enjoyed some of it. The problem is that I don't actually like Shakespeare. *ducks* But I do love Paul Gross, so I watched at least the first two seasons of the show. Were there more?)
Slings & Arrows had one more season, though I didn't like it quite as much as the first two--the play was King Lear, so the underlying topic was inherently depressing. Some of the most amazing fics are very Shakespearean also, so I'll skip those. Try:
Corrina's lovely, lovely Outrageous Fortune (http://www.yuletidetreasure.org/archive/31/outrageousfortune.html)--Jack and Kate, back in Hollywood after.
