Review:
Typically this story would be classified as a rape recovery fic, but it's much, much more than that. Part thriller, part recovery fic, and part classic SN banter, this story has it all and does it all well.

After Casey misses three days of work, Dana sends Dan over to investigate. He finds Casey living in a destroyed apartment, badly bruised and showing symptoms that Dan recognizes all to well. Worst of all is the fact that Casey's attacker isn't done yet...

Dan and Casey are excellent in this, as is the depiction of recovery. The fact is that not all days are good days (but not all days are bad days, either), survivors heal at differing rates, and most rapists don't try it once and give it up. Lanning also does a good job with the SN crew: everyone's responses in this story ring true, even when they're screwing up (but that just makes you love them more when they manage to do something exactly right). Layered, intelligent, and honest but without being painful to read, I think this is Lanning's best story. Check out the short sequel for a lovely coda.

Adventure, adventure! I'm going to read this, although I've never seen Sports Night and have no idea what the characters look like (which often bothers me when reading in an unknown fandom), but I love Lanning Cook. Her TS-fic is of the finest!

I was going to try and find some pretty, pretty pictures for you, but had absolutely no luck. If it helps, Casey is played by Nate from Six Feet Under (AKA Peter Krause) and Dan...well, I don't know what else John Charles has been in, but you might have better luck finding pictures of him than I have. Very attractive men, in a 'we're butch enough to be sports anchors' type of way. As for the rest, you've probably seen Dana (played by Felicity Huffman) in Desperate Housewives as Lynette, Natalie (Sabrina Lloyd) in Sliders as Wade or Numbers (as the female agent from first season who suddenly disappeared just before the season finale). You're on your own with Jeremy (Joshua Malina), Isaac (Robert Guillaume), and Gordon (Ted McGinley).

Oh, I almost forgot Sally, who shows up in Location, Location, Location. She's played by Brenda Strong (Mary Alice on Desperate Housewives).

Enjoy!

Thank you very much for this listing! Now that I've read the fic I'm frankly rather befuddled as to what to say about it. The writing's fine, BUT: so, there's characters Ay, By and Cx who are friends and colleagues, right? Then it turns out Ay has been raped by By's best friend and By's been raped by Cx's ex-boyfriend, whereupon it turns out, that not only is Xy not By's best friend, but he has once raped him as well! And Ay and By have been in love with one another long time, neither daring to speak out! And Yy is Hulk Hogan obviously, because he can beat up every oh, so butch sports reporter - or even two of them!

Really, if I ever actually get to watch SN I'll be not surprised if Dan and Casey'll wear pink ribbons in their hair, little sissies that they are.

All in all not one of Lanning's finer pieces imo, as I just couldn't suspend my disbelief for even a few paragraphs.

Sorry! :-(

Not a problem; not everyone has identical taste. The works for me, because, um, Yy is physically more intimidating than our two heros (who each work twelve hours a day and drink the rest of the time, so clearly don't have much opportunity to work out:)

Off to post another rec!

Thanks for this rec! While I had already read this, I enjoyed taking the time to revisit it.

While the coincidence factor is ratcheted up fairly high in this, it's still a great read, imo, and one of the few SN fics with Adventure! and Suspense!

And the sequel? Cute boys being alternately hot and sweet.

I agree -- SN is fun, but a lot of the time it's fluff (which is frustrating, because the show rarely, if ever, induldged in fluff). Plus, I got to spend a lot of time shouting at Casey, which is always a bonus!
