Review:
Typically this story would be classified as a rape recovery fic, but it's much, much more than that. Part thriller, part recovery fic, and part classic SN banter, this story has it all and does it all well.

After Casey misses three days of work, Dana sends Dan over to investigate. He finds Casey living in a destroyed apartment, badly bruised and showing symptoms that Dan recognizes all to well. Worst of all is the fact that Casey's attacker isn't done yet...

Dan and Casey are excellent in this, as is the depiction of recovery. The fact is that not all days are good days (but not all days are bad days, either), survivors heal at differing rates, and most rapists don't try it once and give it up. Lanning also does a good job with the SN crew: everyone's responses in this story ring true, even when they're screwing up (but that just makes you love them more when they manage to do something exactly right). Layered, intelligent, and honest but without being painful to read, I think this is Lanning's best story. Check out the short sequel for a lovely coda.
