Summary: Fix-it Fic for the end of Live Free and Die Hard

Review: Mai, Trey, and Gabriel survive the end of the movie and go on to have a happy, if evil life.

This is more or less a case fic, direct and to the point. Mai survived her fight with McClane and works to get Trey and Gabriel out of custody. What really makes the story is the characterization. Trey, May, and Gabriel weren't really fleshed out in the original movie, but Nancy worked around that making their relationship real, and believable both in the story and in the realm of Canon.

Mai is take charge and kick ass, Gabriel is the man with the plan, and Trey will do whatever it takes to support both of them. It's a well written dynamic, only made better by Nancy's rendition of Gabriel's biting sense of humor.

Review: I have a major soft-spot for racing movies, and Death Race is one of my favorites. Crossing the Finish Line is one of the few fics I've come across that really does the canon relationships justice.

While I'm a predominantly a slash girl I hate it when the female lead is completely written off, and that is something that this fic avoids all together. Jensen and Joe do end up together, but it's not because Jensen picks Joe over Case, it's because Case decides that she doesn't want to sacrifice her freedom just to keep a home. Even better Jensen respects that and keeps her as a part of his family. I like the fact that Jedi Buttercup made the story about family rather than pairing off.

Joe and Jensen do get a lot of romantic byplay but it's kept in the realm of what's believable for a pair of emotionally repressed prison escapees. They're together and care for each other but not in the 'love of a lifetime' way.

I really wish the story was longer, since it's just long enough to wet your appetite for more glimpses of this universe, but it has everything it needs to make it a great and memorable read.

Review: Doom ended badly for everbody, Jedi Buttercup wrote a nice solid story to fix that. It picks up right when Sarge goes crazy and orders his team to kill everyone. Reaper steps in to stop him.

I love Reaper's voice in this story. It is spot on, though perhaps a little mushier than he'd canonically be. He understands Sarge's insistence on killing everthing, but he doesn't let that force him into impotence. Instead he steps up accepts his death and does his best to make sure his sister and the few surviving members of his team get out alive.

Sarge reacts to Reaper's level-headedness by becoming level-headed himself. This changes the course of the movie for the better.

At the beginning of the movie Sarge and Reaper's characters had a lot of potential that was pretty much squandered when the movie got mired down in the political and action byplay. Jedi Butterfly not only brings out the original potential but pokes fun at the political aspects of the movie. It's a refreshing take on the 'evil business' story line.

This stories only real weakness is the fact that it straddles genres a bit too much for such a short story. It's one part death fic, one part introducing your lover to the family, and one part happy makeup fic. This keeps it from having the emotional punch it could have had.
