Review: I have a major soft-spot for racing movies, and Death Race is one of my favorites. Crossing the Finish Line is one of the few fics I've come across that really does the canon relationships justice.

While I'm a predominantly a slash girl I hate it when the female lead is completely written off, and that is something that this fic avoids all together. Jensen and Joe do end up together, but it's not because Jensen picks Joe over Case, it's because Case decides that she doesn't want to sacrifice her freedom just to keep a home. Even better Jensen respects that and keeps her as a part of his family. I like the fact that Jedi Buttercup made the story about family rather than pairing off.

Joe and Jensen do get a lot of romantic byplay but it's kept in the realm of what's believable for a pair of emotionally repressed prison escapees. They're together and care for each other but not in the 'love of a lifetime' way.

I really wish the story was longer, since it's just long enough to wet your appetite for more glimpses of this universe, but it has everything it needs to make it a great and memorable read.
