Summary: Kurt Hummel is a senior in college and he’s tired of waiting to meet his soulmate. He decides to take matters into his own hands by placing an ad in the newspaper. The response he gets is more than he could have ever imagined.
Review:
Ah, don't you just love those fics that update regularly and reliably, and get even better with each chapter until by the last one you're practically shrieking when you see the update post?
This is one of those.
I'm a sucker for a good old name-written-on-body, lightning-at-first-touch, fate-has-destined-us soulmate AU. Throw in some family angst, long-distance worries, and incredibly emotional smut scenes, and you're set for a real treat.
The depth of emotion in this is intense, keeping you hooked and constantly clicking next chapter, next chapter until you're left splayed out in a puddle of goo and possibly tears. A moving tale of love overcoming the worst obstacles, friendship, family and what it really means to be someone's soulmate--all tied up in a neat little package of fluff, sweetness, and a gorgeous happy ending. You'll be sure to want to read this again.

Summary: Blaine waits in the airport for the foreign exchange student from Alsace. (Or, the tale of how Blaine Anderson loses his virginity and falls in love with the hot French exchange student.)
Review:
This is a great little fic. It's funny, hot, and gives you the fuzzy feelings in your tummy. It's something that I often come back to purely to experience the joy of reading it again.
Misqueue has a way with storytelling that, even for a short-ish fic like this, leaves you with a feeling of contentment and a smile on your face. She knows her characters well, even with their additional AU characteristics, and that really contributes to making a fic that you won't forget.
Kurt is a flirty French student, hitting on Blaine right off the bat, and Blaine is just the right level of blushing virgin and charismatic host. There's an undertone of something in their dialogue right from the very beginning, to be played out in full later in the fic. And to a great degree of hotness in a very well-written smut scene.
Not only is this hot, it's also hilarious. There are no outright jokes or farces, but the whole premise of how Kurt and Blaine have sex for the first time will never not make me giggle. Humour plays a large part in what makes this fic so good, and does so in an excellently subtle way. And then you get the fuzzy feelings too, of course.
So I would definitely recommend spending a good half hour reading this through all at once, and then another several half hours in the future for when you are sure to come back to it.

Summary: Kurt’s life is turned around by a new member of the Skanks, who sees him like no one has before. (Verse—each part is a standalone oneshot).
Review: Little Yellow Tags is a heavy yet moving story told from an angle that I've seen a lot less of in this fandom--that of Dom!Blaine and sub!Kurt. It is a completed verse that can be read as a series of standalone oneshots, or through as a linear fic. Either way, you'll probably cry.
Riah lurkdusoleil has great talent at writing both BDSM and all that is kinky as well as deeply emotional and difficult subjects. This fic ties those two skills together beautifully, bringing a beautiful romance story--featuring an incredible sexy skank!Blaine--alongside that of personal growth and identity, while tying in the concept of power exchange and D/s. Blaine recognizes Kurt's problems, and while he is not the cure--the only one who can fix them is Kurt himself--he understands how he can help guide and protect him, and eventually grow to love him.
This fic/verse is beautifully crafted and written, as well. It will leave you aching for more, and drooling over every single smut scene. (Yes, this is absolutely smoking hot.) The kinks associated with a D/s lifestyle--bondage, punishment, other forms of play--are employed to an incredible advantage once Kurt and Blaine start toying with them.
This is an intense, emotional, and dangerously hot fic, that I would definitely recommend setting aside time to read for. It will be well worth it.

Review:
Just a short one this time! The mob boss!Kurt trope is one that I'm quite enjoying at the moment, and this wonderful fic has certainly contributed to that. While not particularly long, it tells a story, one that I would love to see explored deeper and closer in a longer fic. (Not that it's not done well here, it certainly is!) And yes, I'll admit it, it may have even influenced me into trialing some of my own mob boss ideas.
Kurt is not as dark as you'd expect, which is refreshing and holds well to his original character. Although he kills for a living, the only thing that matters to him above all else is Blaine, and my little shipper heart goes all a-flutter. Blaine, not in the mob himself, is not naive, but his love for Kurt shines through above all his doubts. This is a wonderful little fic and will certainly leave you desperate for more.

Summary: After a nasty accident, Kurt is amnesic and doesn't remember being Blaine's Dom, leaving sub!Blaine floating, lost and without a subspace.
Review:
So I think I should start by saying that I have read a lot of the D/s fics that the Klaine fandom has to offer. Most of them, probably. Even the ones buried deep in the glee-kink-meme across several different threads. Which means that when I came across this I was absolutely thrilled.
Thrilled. Hah. Basically, I started crying about a quarter of the way in and didn't stop until the end. That's how thrilled I was.
But this fic--man, this fic. I've never really found any D/s fic before where the Dom is incapable, but it was so awakening to read it here. I felt Kurt's portrayal as simple-vanilla-Kurt trying to be Dom-Kurt was incredibly in character, and the frightening reality of how hard it is for both him and Blaine living with this condition is clearly displayed. The little moments of happiness amid the angst are welcome beams of sunlight on a stormy day, but it's the fantastic climax and ending that really sealed the deal for me. You're crying because of all the angst and then suddenly you're crying because of how beautiful everything is and how wonderfully the story has come together. All neatly tied up in a little package of deliciously hot and kinky smut. Perfect.
Gosh, this gave me a lot of feels. I hope it will give you them too. Keep a box of tissues close by!

Summary: During his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Blaine makes an unlikely friend in the form of one of castle’s portraits: Kurt Hummel.
Review:
Ah, those good old Harry Potter crossovers. Every fandom has them. Even the Harry Potter fandom has them, strangely enough.
But do they feature the main character as a portrait sitting on an empty wall of Hogwarts? Probably not.
Kurt doesn't know much about himself, only what his painter told him before leaving him on a wall for over 140 years. He lives a dull, fairly miserable life, until a boy called Blaine Anderson comes fumbling along and trips on his over-large robes in his corridor.
Blaine and Kurt are fast friends--in fact, Kurt is Blaine's only friend. This story follows the development of that friendship, as Blaine teaches Kurt about who he was as a human, and Kurt finally has someone to talk to, spend his time with, look forward to seeing. Even through all the ups and down, they stay loyal to each other, and follow the natural course of most pieces of Klaine fanfiction--they fall in love.
The warnings do say major character death, yes, but do not fear--the story has a bittersweet (but mostly sweet) ending that will leave you with a smile on your face. And several select references to the actual events of the Harry Potter series scattered throughout, which will leave you hungering for more.

Just a short one from me today, seeing as I stayed up until birdsong last night and really need my beauty sleep.
This little ficlet is absolutely smoking hot, like the kind of hot that actual requires a cold shower or a freezer-full of ice cubes tipped over your head. Beizy certainly does not shrink on the details of what we're reading, putting it all out there, using her clever way with words and extremely apt vocabulary to really do what she does best--draw you right into the fic. And the delicious, gluttonous feast that is tentacle porn.
Don't be fooled by thinking this is all smut, though--as delightful as that may sound, the little addition of plot here is key to really bringing this fic to another level. And, as always, the plot--the knowledge of the characters and their circumstances--just makes the not-plot even hotter.

The only problem is... they're both in committed relationships.
Review:
I have been in love with this fic since I read the very first sentence of it. I was drawn in, enthralled, and held captive until the very end. And I read that first sentence two whole years ago.
Now completely updated and finished, I am absolutely certain that Someone Like You is well on its way--if not already there--to becoming one of the fandom must-reads. And I'm not just saying that. Everyone I have spoken to about it has read or plans to read this fic, and is just as spellbound by it as I am. Annie brings us a story written with such passion, integrity and deep understanding of storytelling that it threatens to burst out of the screen and right into our everyday lives, following us and staying with us and giving us literally all the feels.
This is a story of two men who are pining for each other, but have to learn that love is not as simple as it may seem. Annie portrays the feeling of want and confusion so very well, intermingling humour, fluff, smut and just the right amount of angst to leave you reeling. I'm not kidding. Certain lines have given me physical goosebumps. Kurt and Blaine's journey can go from the fluffiest, sweetest day of them all to absolutely devastating angst in one line of dialogue, and then be beautifully wrought together again by careful manipulation of our emotions and wicked writing skill.
This fic is rife with sexual tension, even when resolved, fired by Kurt and Blaine's perfectly characterised flirty and witty banter. The sex scenes are scorching hot, but not just the dirty, smutty kind of hot--the kind that only comes when there is depth and truth and intimacy involved. The music--oh gosh, the music. It deserves a rec of its own. Every single song chosen to accompany this piece fits absolutely beautifully, from the little tunes hummed in the quiet light of morning to the life-changing and heartbreaking songs that carry the fic--notably, see the title.
Did I mention Adele? Well, she's here. Adele, the one and only, interacting with and moving and loving our boys as if she was one of us. And so well written, too. Just like all of Annie's original characters, actually--from the annoying-at-first-until-you-love-her Deidre, to the loyal friend Antonio, to the sweetest angel of them all Sarah. And every character taken from the world of Glee, whether it be by explicit scene or purely passing mention, deserves a tip of the hat for their wonderful characterisation.
This is an emotive, moving, rollercoaster of a journey--I laughed and cried and thought about it all day at work, then came home and laughed and cried more until I'd finished it. If you want to read something beautifully written, crafted and carried out, I would certainly not pass this by.
And as a fair warning--you will never be able to listen to Someone Like You by Adele the same way again.

Summary: From the time he's five years old, Kurt's best friend lives right across the street – at least for the holidays. (A story about friendship, loneliness and love, told through a series of summers and winters.)
Review:
This is a beautiful story about growing up and growing into a relationship. Told entirely from Kurt's point of view, it takes us from his very earliest years through meeting his best friend, losing his best friend, and regaining his best friend and now boyfriend. It's about Kurt discovering himself and discovering what it means to have one person who means the world to you.
Told through snapshots from the summer and winter of fourteen years of Kurt Hummel's life, this fic starts out as the cutest, fluffiest thing you've ever read until it becomes a dramatic and moving story of commitment and love. Kurt and Blaine grow up together and get to keep each other throughout their entire lives, be each other's ports in the storms, each other's forevers. Their romantic relationship is beautifully based on the lifetime of experiences they share.
Kurt's voice is wonderful, perfectly in character--even as a child he still holds an air of tiny superiority--and over the years he develops seamlessly into the amazing character who graces our television screens today. Blaine, too, is excellently written, bright and eager and as always, eternally loyal.
This made me giggle and cry a little, but mostly squee a lot. Especially if you're a Kurt stan, I can't recommend it enough.

Review:
Gosh, don't you just love it when you find one of those fics that you can just read over and over and over, and yet never get bored? That's how this fic feels to me. And it's an absolutely delightful feeling to witness the little butterflies in your stomach flutter every single time.
I think one of the things I like the most about this fic is how it shows how beautiful and loving a proper D/s relationship can be. Not that either of the participants is perfect, no, we all have our flaws; but the care and emotion that Kurt shows to Blaine, a boy who has been neglected ever since puberty, really demonstrate that perfect ideal that we all have in our minds.
And you're a leetle bit kinky, like me, then you'll be glad to know that this fic uses kink to a brilliant degree. It's smoldering hot, but even then the sex scenes are loaded with the weight of more.
I'd suggest leaving some time to read this all at once, to better take in its wonderfulness. Ok, I know that sounded sappy, but it's true. This is a really amazing piece of fanfiction.
And be sure to check out the equally brilliant sequel, 525,600 Minutes!

The one bright spot is a very intriguing fellow guest named Kurt, who believes every story about the estate and its infamous otherwordly inhabitants. As Blaine gets closer to Kurt, he finds himself becoming a stalwart believer right along side him.
Review:
March isn't really the season for ghost stories, but that doesn't mean we can't appreciate a good one. Especially when it comes with healthy loadings of flirting, comedy and intrigue.
Not gonna lie: when I was reading this, I did jump if someone came into the room or made a loud noise, and not because I have a nervous disposition. It's incredibly easy to be sucked into the story and into the sense of mystery and spookiness, and the twists and turns of the plot have a captivating aura about them.
And not only is it spooky. The flirty banter--and then more--offsets the darkness beautifully, and makes for a beautiful romance between Kurt and Blaine. The tension between them is there from the very first meeting, and continues throughout the whole story.
If you're like me, I wouldn't suggest reading this in the dark!

Sometimes it was but for a moment. Sometimes it was a lifetime. Often it was met with tragedy. Tragic love stories desperate for their happy endings, destined to repeat themselves until they could get it right. And this time, Kurt thinks they may have done it.
1000 years. Several lifetimes. Sometimes Kurt and Blaine. And sometimes Konráðr and Bláán. Candide and Blaise. Corradino and Baldassare. Different lives. The same love.
Review:
When I first started reading this fic, I had no idea of how painful it would be. How much I would cry. It literally drowned me in tears. So yeah, proceed with caution.
But! I promise you it has a happy ending. At least, one happy ending. You see, this fic follows Kurt and Blaine throughout all their lifetimes, whether they're warring Vikings or Renaissance painters or Victorian men. And--well, to move on to the next lifetime, you do kind of have to die in the current one first.
So there is a lot of main character death--over the centuries, Kurt and Blaine's story has always ended sadly, and usually in death. But this fic just really reminds us of their lifetime now, the love they have, the promise they made to each other. It takes Blaine's famous proposal speech to the heart and beautifully and eloquently demonstrate what it really mean to hold hands fearlessly and forever and to fall in love over and over again, for all eternity.

In this world, your spouse gets picked for you by the government. Kurt is a boy with big dreams and Blaine is McKinley High’s resident bad boy. This is the story of what happens when they’re suddenly thrown into each other’s lives.
Review:
Ah, arranged marriages--the good old trope that gets me every time. Forcing two people who barely know each other to permanently commit to spending their lives together. What a brilliant recipe for a wonderful romance tale.
Take that, add a dash of badboy, a handful of unlikely friendship, a heaping of romance and a sprinkle of unresolved sexual tension, and you know you're in for a hella good ride.
This is the story of the growth between two people who we would never expect to grow together, the story of two boys discovering what it means to be together, the story of a relationship determined by the system but destined by fate. It's about coming to accept your circumstances and look at them positively, despite the lack of freedom that they hold. It's about learning to look past the exterior and into the heart, as closed off as it may be. It's about growing up and growing into yourself.
But mostly, it's a tale about love.

Summary: Wine critic Kurt Hummel can make or break careers with his column for Taste Magazine. But when his publisher orders him to spend a year profiling rising stars of California’s wine country and organizing a competition between the big name wineries of Napa and the smaller artisan wineries of Sonoma, his world gets turned upside-down by an enigmatic young winemaker who puts art before business.
Review:
Wine lovers, ahoy! This is most definitely the fic for you. If you are not a wine lover, have never tasted wine, or hate it with the passion of a million exploding stars--don't worry, you'll love this too. (Well, maybe not if you really do hate wine with the passion of a million exploding stars. But at least you don't have to drink it?)
This is a fic that really delves deep into it's topic--written by someone who knows what she's talking about, and is as passionate about it as she is about the two main characters. This really shows through in the writing, the settings and the backstories, the way we can take a written tour of the Sonoma Valley and suddenly feel very at home there. The delivery and language used is exquisite, carefully selected words and phrases, just like the grapes that go into a good bottle of Syrah.
Kurt is cool, sophisticated, and deliciously warm and gooey at heart--Blaine is confident, clever, and mostly just stuffed full of cheesy romance. They blend together perfectly.
If I had to choose one word to describe this fic, I would choose the word sensual. Because that's what this is--a story that uses not only yours eyes in the reading, but your tongue and nose and all the nerves down your back that give you shivers when you read. The countryside is sensual, the wine is sensual, Kurt and Blaine are sensual--very sensual indeed, once you start to near the climax of the story. It's a joyous ride for the senses and the emotions, and would highly recommend having your best bottle of red to hand before you sit down to read.

Summary: Kurt and Blaine have been best friends (and nothing more) since the age of six. Now 22-year-old college graduates, they take a roadtrip around the USA, visiting every state in 100 days. Fifty states. Two boys. One love story.
Review:
This fic posted its final update about 20 minutes ago and I still haven't stopped crying.
Now let me stop you there, before you disregard it with a toss of your hair as an angst-fest and move on to the next smuffy oneshot. Because although this may have made me want to claw my face off at times, mostly with frustration at the boys being so very hesitant in their steps towards each other, I think it is one of the only two fics I have read that have left me with such a deep sense of contentment and emotion. This fic and its oh-so-delightfully regular updates have changed me, moved me, and always left me buzzing for more.
A roadtrip across the USA certainly sounds fun--and so it is, as Mimsy brings her clever touch of humour and wit to the story--but in this case, the journey goes a lot further than a luxurious RV and a couple of nights in each state. In this case, the journey is one between two people. It's a journey of love, and possibly one of the best I've ever had the pleasure to witness. It will leave you stunned, emotional, and rather feeling like you've been hit by a truck. In the best way possible.
I'm a sucker for slow-build romances, and boy is this one. To be quite honest, it's probably the slowest build I've ever read. Don't worry--you'll get your smut fairly soon, but we know we're all here for the romance, and the acknowledgment of those three little words, well--they certainly took their time coming. But it is so, so worth it, when you finally get that feeling of fulfillment, of rightness, and you squeal out loud--only to be bombarded with a another obstacle in the next chapter.
But each obstacle brings us closer and closer to the end, and brings Kurt and Blaine closer and closer together, until you arrive where I am now, lying broken on your bed with a wet face and shaky fingers. This is, without doubt, one of my favourite pieces of not on fanfiction but fiction as well, and I have a feeling it shall remain with me a very long time. Mimsy's way with words, how she crafts simple nouns and verbs into something so beautiful and moving, will always astound me. The soundtrack--gosh, the soundtrack of this fic just brings an element that takes it to another level, perfectly matched to the text and story in a way that I find rare. And above all, the plot, the deep dark gritty elements of story, is so astonishingly perfect and sentimental and controlled and mesmerizing, that it just--leaves me breathless. And can I just say, the amount of detail in the locations and geography? You would never guess that the author is British.
So, now that I've finished throwing superlatives at you, I invite you to sit back, relax, grab a box of tissues, and prepare to be blown away.

I hope this counts for this week's theme--it's only a short little ditty, but it's terribly fluffy and romantic.
This one-shot is sweet and funny, a little bit sexy, and hopelessly heart-melting. It's canon compliant and I'm glad to say that Kurt and Blaine's characterizations are also very canon compliant. And excellent. And well-done. You can probably tell that good characterization turns me on.
The couple of scenes with Burt Hummel are just how you'd want them to be--he's trying to impose himself as the "scary dad", but you can tell that he's actually very happy for his son. The tension built up in those scenes is then perfectly relieved in the best way possible--kissing. (Not kissing Burt! Kissing Kurt. Obviously.) And that just makes the kissing even hotter.

Review:
I've recommended fic by the wonderful Riah lurkdusoleil before, and with reason. She has a mind that comes up with all these amazing worlds and storylines that I can only aspire to. Widdershins is a perfect example.
I'm a humungous sucker for fantasy, old and modern, and when I come across a story that not online combines old folklore and a modern setting but my OTP as well? There was no way I wasn't hitting that read more button as fast as possible. Widdershins is a bar in New York, run by the magical Fae, under the rulings of one very sexy Kurt Hummel. Blaine wanders in off the street and we, just like him, are hooked.
As I like to read, there's a good dosage of sexual tension sprinkled throughout the first half of the fic, culminating intensely and hotly and making me have to leave to room to find a glass of cold water. The fact that Blaine is a reverse empath and telepath, able to open his mind and thoughts to those around him (cough Kurt cough), just makes every part of his story even more thrilling. His relationship with Kurt is so well handled and grown that it feels organic, just like it should, and makes the ending even more satisfying. I won't spoil you, but let's just say that there's a scene in the last chapter or so that I had to read at at least half my usual speed, just to fully capture the beauty and intensity of the writing.
Kurt is clever and sexy and witty and absolutely perfect, and Blaine is eager and open and loving in all the ways that make him such a wonderful character. The background characters are funny and have depth and meaning. The world is perfectly constructed and seated so well in the Celtic mythology on which this fic is based that I'm surprised it's not real. This fic is so good that as soon as the last chapter was posted today I had to rush over to this site and recommend it immediately. So please. Sit back, kick your feet up, take a sip of your mana-spiked wine, and enjoy.

This is a lovely, sweet and funny little fic that offers a glance into the life of the New York crew on one of their game nights. The premise is simple: a collection of classic film titles are placed in a hat and you have to draw whatever film you pull out for the rest of your team to guess. Unfortunately, one team is a lot stronger than the other, and that leaves a few people to their own sneaky devices to try and win.
As usual, flamingmuse's prose flows easily and naturally. She's got a good taste for what's funny and really hits everyone's characterisation bang on the head. It goes to show a great writer when an entire period of life can be painted in just a few thousand words.

Summary: Cast opposite the successful actor and performer Blaine Anderson as a romantic lead in a historic drama, Kurt, a relative newcomer to the screen, has to learn to navigate his relationship with his character – and with his co-star.
Review:
The story is based on a real letter, written by a World War II soldier to his lover. Brian Keith and G.I. Dave, the characters Kurt and Blaine are portraying on screen, were real people. This just adds such an aspect to the fic--as it delves into not only Kurt and Blaine's story but their characters' as well, you can easily imagine that this was the way it could all have happened. It certainly adds a depth to the understanding between the reader and the characters, which I feel is maybe slightly rarer in the kind of thing I usually read--it really makes you stop and think.
But back to the actual story. Kurt and Blaine are beautifully brought into this fic, their characterization well-developed and interesting, and their relationship with their characters often adds to that too. The flow and build of their relationship with each other is heart-clenching; this fic is one of the ones that has really stuck with me as having a really excellent romantic storyline. There are some scenes which just make me quiver.
And not to mention the writing and pace and descriptions--I'm blessed to have read this. And so will you be, once you have too.

Warnings (In the author's own words): Glee spoilers only tangentially, we're *crazy* AU from season one. Spoilers for All the Other Ghosts, obv. And oh my god warnings, okay: exactly what went for AtOG goes here. We are dealing with actual superheroes in actual capes and yes there is a certain degree of suspension of disbelief going on here, but where I think things deserve being treated with honesty I do try to do that. So, the warnings are broad and serious: if you read about it in a newspaper, it could easily turn up here. Violence, drugs and alcohol, sexual assault, homophobia, bigotry, abusive relationships, more or less anything you might want a superhero to help you with if it came up. Also, this fic is brought to you by the theme of miscommunication and the space between people failing to understand each other: so, yeah, expect some angst . . . And as always, character says =/= writer says and if someone decides to get snotty about the physics of superpowers when people are actually wearing capes oh my god, I will not be amused. So your warning *there* is that if you get snotty, I'll be unamused at you, boys in fricking *capes* guys ;P

Summary: The sequel to one of the fandom's best known and loved fics, All The Other Ghosts. Identity, relationships, and the famous online fandom are put into question in this darker and angstier tale. Everyone's got to learn.
Review:
Wow, okay. I just need to take a moment to breathe before I can start reccing this astounding fic.
So many of you who are in the Glee fandom will probably have already read Rainjoy's fantastic superhero AU, All the Other Ghosts. Remember how good that was, and how you cried and laughed and angsted over it for the months it was posting?
This is even better.
Grey goes further into exploring our boys' identities as both Kurt and Blaine and as their superhero counterparts, The Ghost and Phalanx, and the murky grey area that lies between those two sides of themselves. We're looking at heavy issues here, folks. Consent, trust, hopes for a future--all things that contribute to a lot of hanging-off-the-edge-of-your-seat drama. While All the Other Ghosts focused a lot on the past, Grey focuses on the present and the future. And it's a very scary present, and a very bleak future.
But, as usual, we're safe in Rainjoy's extremely capable hands. Grey isn't without its bursts of joy and humour--the "Ghostlanx phandom" is back and at its strongest, bringing not only additional light to Kurt and Blaine's story, but its own stories of love and sadness as well. The way Rainjoy writes those fans really makes you look at yourself, and your fandom, and then sit and think for a moment.
It's rare that I read fic that has such well-handled plot, action, romance and angst--to be quite honest, I feel privileged to be reading this. That's how good it is. The double-meaning sentences, the plays on words and even punctuation, everything, just leaves me stunned. Every update left me reeling and jittery with excitement. And yes, at the end, I cried. A lot. (Happy tears! I was mostly just sad that this epic saga was over.)
So settle back, put on some music, and grab a box of tissues. You'll need them. Then let yourself be immersed in the wonderful world that is Grey.
