Fandom: SPN

Author's Summary: Dean Winchester meets Sam Morgan during Sam's rookie season in minor league baseball. When Dean is traded not long after, he can't forget the farmboy from Kansas.

Review:
Dean and Sam fall in love the first time they set their eyes on each other. It takes a long time for Dean to admit that to himself, for Sam to figure out that he's gay, and even longer for the two to finally get together.

There are so many good things about this fic: the pacing, the character development (the author took time to allow Dean and Sam each grow into the person that's ready for the other), the perfect(ly) (fluffy) ending that makes all the angst you've suffered through worthwhile. However, what I really want to point out to you is that in this total AU, Dean and Sam are *not* brothers, though the author has managed to keep their characterizations very close to canon.

If you've been hesitant to read any Dean/Sam stories in the past due to their incestuous nature, I urge you to give Stealing Home a chance, and perhaps that will be enough to encourage you to read more SPN stories in the future.

Ohh, how did I miss this one?! I thought I read everything! Thanks so much for sharing the info :)

Thank you! :)
For the number of new SPN stories coming out everyday, I think it's impossible for anyone to read them all (um...unless you're Jane, apparently). ;p

So I just read this entire story (uh, when I was supposed to be working). Excellent stuff! I'm looking forward to more Sam/Dean fics (where they're not actually related, because I really don't think I'm ever getting over that incest squick).

Thanks!

Dude, this fic is over 60k! I couldn't read it in one day even if I didn't have to work.

Re: Sam/Dean. Hee, but I know I'd convert you some day ;p I can think of a few other SPN stories where Sam/Dean grow up in different families, fall in love, and later on find out they are related...it kinda sucks.

It took me just over three hours (and I managed to squeeze some work in while I was reading) -- now you see why I'm always so desperate for fic:)

Dating without knowing their related (and then finding out) still counts as incest fic. Which, *squick*. I spend quite a bit of time reading the previous story reminding myself 'not brothers', '*not* brothers'.

I can't believe there aren't more not-brothers AUs out there, though -- I can't be the only one squicked by incest...

I'm more or less okay with the "didn't know" variety, as long as they're not brother and sister and trying to produce potentially genetically deficient babies. Two brothers who didn't know they were related? They might as well be strangers... Maybe there's a story where they never find out but the readers know...

Well, most people who are squicked by incest are reading RPS... There's always the good ol' "find&replace" method. ;p

Um, yeah. The find and replace method hasn't really worked for me much either. But I do think I'd be able to read RPF as long as the folks are from a few centuries ago:)

So there are some tagged searches (i.e. Sam and Dean are not brother) at SPN Story Finders, but good stories that are complete and not under locked LJ were pretty much non-existent last time I've gone through them.

*sigh* Isn't that always the way? Reason #3940328 why I read very little fic on LJ these days...

Thanks for the link!

The author has added an absolutely gorgeous coda:

Warning: character death. Dean dies of old age, but still.
