Due to RL being really hectic I missed last week's post (sorry about that!). To make up for it, I offer a really epic (over 170,000 words) fic.

Title: The “Resurrection-verse" Series.
Fandom: The Avengers (Marvel).
Pairing: Steve Rogers/Tony Stark.
Categories: Adventure, Angst, Hurt/Comfort.
Length: Epic.
Warnings: Canon character deaths mentioned, but pretty much everyone comes back.

Authors on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] elspethdixon  and [livejournal.com profile] seanchai
Authors Website:
Elspeth's Index (Elspeth).
Arizona Nightingale (Seanchai).

Review:
The “Resurrection”-verse is a set of (so far) three epic length stories written by the same team that wrote The “Classic-verse" (recced here).

Set after the events of the Civil War caused by the Registration, the first story starts off with Doom bringing Captain America back from the dead and goes on to deal with the events that follow. Though the relationship between Steve and Tony (and how the latter deals with his all compassing sense of guilt) is the focal point of the series, it also deals with how the Avengers (and to a minor extent, how the entire hero community) is dealing with the after effects of their inner conflict.

Though the series has a lot of action, the best thing about it is how it deals with the relationship between the characters, be they romantic or not. Great characterization, fantastic writing and a good plot make for a very enjoyable read.

Resurrection, Reconstruction, and Redemption.
Readjustment.
Hostages to Fortune.

Akatsuki Ayako drew some fantastic art pieces to accompany the first story (warning: spoilers abound).

Oh my God, yes, read these stories. I saw it recced (well, it and everything else this pair have written) in one of the comments here to... I think small fandoms rec request. I read them, and ... I think I've probably read them over and over more times in a shorter span of time than just about anything else. Mmm, angst + happy endings + actual plot + hugely long epics + good dialogue + great supporting casts. It's, like, everything I love all rolled into one.

Oh, don't worry. They're already saved in my Comicsverse to read folder. I'm just debating whether I should read them now or if I should first read the hundred or so other (very short) IM fics I've gleaned from the internet.

Tony Stark FTW!

Totally! He's, like, everything I go for in a character. And I don't know... I guess, I'd maybe go for the big one... well, it depends on if you want to save the best for last or what. Some of the short ones are pretty good, there's not that many authors in the fandom, but some of them are quite talented. Well, and Nix is writing porn for them, which really, is all you need. But Elspethdixon and seanchai really are fantastic, and you can tell that they love basically all of the characters (even the female characters! I like their female characters! It's a miracle!). And oh, the dialogue. I've always loved Spiderman, and they write him wonderfully. Oh Peter.

I'm very much a save the best for last sort of gal, and since epics nearly always equal best in my mind, I tend to save them for last. But that means I've been reccing a lot of medium and long (rather than epic) fics lately and so I'm thinking of spending a few weeks reading nothing but epics. Which sounds like a lot of fun, actually:) Maybe I'll do that over December, since we've been discussion taking the month off (for formal reccing, anyway).

Thanks!

Hm, upon thinking about it (I've got one minute left in my work day, I seriously never get anything done between 5 and 5:30), you may want to start with R,R&R if for no other reason than it really is the foundation of the fandom, the first real story to be written in it, as far as my understanding goes. It also depends on whether you read the comics (I never had before... I seriously did not need something else to spend money on. Darn it!). They recommend reading one bit of the comics, which they've got scanned, before starting the story... do it if you haven't read it. But yeah, RR&R will give you a very good base in the fandom and in canon if you don't know much about it.

Ok, time to go home. I just told my boss I'm coming to work on Friday as a college student, for Halloween. She seems to like the idea. I'm using it as an excuse to come in jeans and my undergrad hoodie and tennies. ::grins::

Okay, for the third (third!) time, LJ has eaten my comment. Grr. Short version: thank you for the suggestions (I'll quite likely take it as I'm really eager to read these stories in the first place:) and I envy you getting to dress up for Halloween. *sulk*

Oh god, I didn't know about the art. It makes it all the better.

But the Resurrection series is wonderful.

The art is just so amazing I had to include it in the rec - it makes this fantastic series even more wonderful.

Okay, so for about twelve seconds Tales of Suspense was set up so that I could download multi-chapter stories as a single file. Sadly, I missed Hostages to Fortune and then they went back to their old layout (which is prettier, but far less functional, and you know how I feel about that. Grr.)

Anyway, do you know where I might be able to get Hostages to Fortune as a single file? Thanks!

Download this glorious program (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Download-Managers/Fanfiction-Downloader.shtml) and you can get it as a single file right off ff.net (here (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4301049/1/Hostages_to_Fortune)).

Seriously, this program is a godsend for ff.net, because it lets you very quickly save entire multi-chapter fics in a single file and read them in Word instead of in ff.net's ugly layout and font.

(Or I could send you a copy as a Word file, but you should download the program anyway, because, like I said, godsend).

Dude, I *love* fanfiction downloader -- so much so, in fact, that we actually include a link to it:) Seriously, best program ever.

And yay for your fic at ff.net. Off to download now. Thanks!
