RR -- Fredericks's Fandoms

  • Sep. 8th, 2008 at 8:56 AM

I have some sad news: Due to RL commitments, [info]fredericks will no longer be reccing at ER. We wish her the very best and want to send her off in style: thus, there will be some bonus recs posed today and we're also posting this reader's recs post in her honor. And what better way to say thank you to a fabulous reccer than to offer up some more requests in the fandoms she represented so well?

The fandoms:
Angel
Buffy
Due South
Marvel Comics
Numb3rs
Stargate SG-1
X-Men

Things to keep in mind:
-Recced stories can be any length, any fandom, and any pairing, as long as they fit the theme
-You don't need to write a review (unless you want to). All that you need to include are title, author, and link to the story (all parts if there are more than one).

That said, have at it!

1. I love Killer Replacements. Most anything by Speranza, really. And
2. After overcoming my fear of gen fic (my saying? "No smex? NEXT!") I started reading Office Hours and I *love the hell out of it*. It's a fun plotty fic, bringing some of my favorite Marvel folks together.

Wonderful recs. Thanks so much for posting them!

"Office Hours" was actually what got me into the Marvel fandom in the first place, so it seemed kinda appropriate to recommend it, share in my joy and all that.
I really glad you liked them, those two stories were the first to pop into my mind when I read the entry :)

Okay I can manage a few...

Buffy: False Claims (http://skauble.googlepages.com/fc) by SKauble
Angelus is forced to claim Cordy leading to unexpected consequences for Cordy and the Scoobies.

This an AU of Buffy season 2, and among my very favourite BtVS fics. Cordelia is gradually brought further and further into Angelus' control, with magic at work making them fall for each other, but she's a fighter, and won't let herself go easily. I love the portrayals of not only the two main characters, but also Giles - I have a great love for Giles-Cordelia interaction (of any kind) and there's loads of it in this fic. It's a really long fic, currently standing at 95 chapters. It's a WIP, and I have to admit that it's been a while since the last update, but I still recommend it whole heartedly.

X-Men: His Terrible Swift Sword (http://www.thechicagoloop.net/yahtzee/brackets/bracketfic/SwordIntro.htm) by Yahtzee
In the past, a young Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr struggle to discover their powers -- and in the near future, humanity is waging war on Magneto's Brotherhood and losing. Wolverine/Rogue, Xavier/Magneto.

Yahtzee is one of my very favourite authors: she writes in many, many fandoms and her stories are amazing. So you may also care to check out another X-Men story by her, namely He/We/They/I (http://www.thechicagoloop.net/yahtzee/XMMfic/HeWeTheyI.htm).

Oh, and while I'm at the Yahtzee-reccing, I could also mention:

Angel: A Stitch in Time (http://www.thechicagoloop.net/yahtzee/chivalry/chivfic/StitchIntro.htm)
Dru decides to go back in time to make sure her 'daddy' never gets a soul. Angel, Cordy, and the gang go back in time to stop her.

Re: Seriously, I'm a bit verklemmt over here.

Someone recently posted a masterlist of all the Die Hard fics they could find, if you're interested. Currently 156 stories.

The Due South story I end up reccing more than any other:
All the Comforts of Home (http://www.squidge.org/~dsa/archive/romance/allthe.html)by Denise Raymond ([livejournal.com profile] rattlecatcher)
Fraser/RayK, RayV/Stella. Outstanding character voices, great original characters, fantastic love story in which everything doesn't turn out completely happily ever after, but happily enough for the real world. Sequel in Chicago Tales (http://www.dueslash.com/archive/844.html).

A more recent favorite:
Tip, Slide, Tumble (http://crocolanthus.com/dsss/archive/3/tipslide.html) by [livejournal.com profile] j_s_cavalcante
Fraser/RayK. A heart-wrenching but not schmoopy kidfic that doesn't follow all the stereotypical tropes.

... and my Stargate SG-1 recs:

So hard to pick just one from Komos ([livejournal.com profile] paian), but I keep returning to The Appearance of Objects in Depth (http://komos.lyricalmagic.com/depth.html). Jack/Daniel. Incredibly gorgeous love shines through in the middle of a horrible situation.

Sinner's Grove (http://www.skeeter63.org/~soulcake/slash/grove.html) by Martha needs tons of warnings for noncon and angst, but so worth it. Jack/Daniel. Beautifully written, wrenching with a hopeful ending.

Downtime (http://anyroad.org/merry/downtime.html) by Merry ([livejournal.com profile] merryish) is my happy place. Jack/Daniel pre-slash with some Sam/Narim in the background. Delightful team fic, perfect characterizations, and adorable like puppies and kittens.
