RR -- Epistolary fic

  • Aug. 11th, 2008 at 8:24 AM
Due to a fluke in timing, we're getting a lot of these Readers' Recs posts at one time.  Though this week is because of one of the more fun reasons: we're having another theme week!  That's right, this week all of our reccers will be posting stories that are either entirely composed of correspondence, or at least where correspondence plays a big part of the story.  We know there are more stories out there like this, so we're asking ya'll to rec your favorites to us!

Things to keep in mind:
-Recced stories can be any length, any fandom, and any pairing, as long as they fit the theme
-You don't need to write a review (unless you want to).  All that you need to include are title, author, and link to the story (all parts if there are more than one).

That said, have at it!

I have a Due South rec for you -- beautiful and angsty and haunting.

[livejournal.com profile] loneraven's At the Time of Writing (http://community.livejournal.com/ds_flashfiction/577573.html) It depicts Fraser and Ray K's relationship through scraps of ephemera, from a cozy domesticity to a descent into madness.

Here are four of my favorite due South Epistolary fics, all Fraser/Kowalski.

Belles Lettres (http://www.dueslash.com/archive/1281.html) by Journey is an epic-length AU in which Fraser accepted the transfer back to Canada during "Mutiny on the Bounty". The two of them begin writing letters back and forth.

The Question of Ghosts (http://arrow00.livejournal.com/28154.html) by [livejournal.com profile] arrow00 is a medium length angsty epistolary fic with a warning for majot character death. Fraser writes in his journal. He wonders if he's lost his mind when someone starts writing back.

Recompense (http://crocolanthus.com/recompense.htm), by [livejournal.com profile] sprat is a medium length fic in which Fraser's dead Uncle Tiberius is determined to not let Fraser repeat his mistakes. This fic winds around the structure of a set of letters sent between Tiberius and his lover, back in the 40's.

The Underlying Problem (http://www.stonesoup.co.nz/chinashop/fic/underlying.html) by [livejournal.com profile] china_shop is a short, sweet, and hysterically funny letter that Fraser writes to Ray, trying to explain about Ray. He tries to be disccreet, given the hush-hush nature of Ray's assignment, but things get terribly muddled.

Pepe's Dear Sara (a Jack/Daniel AU, where a large portion of the long fic is actually wounded-soldier-Jack's letter's home to his wife, Sara - which Daniel has to write for him, since Jack's sight is impaired... has a very long satisfying development of the relationship between Jack and Daniel, and dissolution of Jack's relationship with Sara)

I think you might have to join her yahoogroup to access the fic, but there might still be links available somewhere.
