RR -- Magnificent Seven

  • Aug. 6th, 2008 at 10:13 AM
So, I'm having a really crappy day so far.  The only bright spot?  Discovering the M7 fandom.  Thus I am taking full advantage of this comm to beg you all for some M7 recs to give me a much-needed boost.  All I ask is that they be complete, at least 10,000 words, and end happily.  Thanks!

Things to keep in mind:
-Recced stories can be any length, any fandom, and any pairing, as long as they fit the theme
-You don't need to write a review (unless you want to).  All that you need to include are title, author, and link to the story (all parts if there are more than one).

That said, have at it!

I've got a couple more Mag 7 recs! (Hopefully these aren't ones you originally recced to me:)

The Years In Between by TrueEnough; Chris/Vin, AU of the ATF AU
-No link (damn internet filters), but I'm sure I found it on Blackraptor.

Hazard of the Die by Zeke Black; Chris/Ezra, Old West
-http://zekiel.livejournal.com/10725.html?mode=reply (not a direct link, but it should hopefully get you there.)

When Shadows Fall (http://www.magnificent7.com/fanfiction/shadows.html). 3 megabytes of gen action/adventure and h/c, with all of the Seven playing a major role. The writing is a little less polished in the beginning (it improves as the story goes on), and the bad guys are not quite as three dimensional as they might be, but It's one of my favorites in the fandom.

Candles of the Wicked (http://www.blackraptor.net/m7fic-33/candles/index.htm) by GM Atwater. Buck is shot and nearly killed, and Chris and JD go off in search of vengeance (and then have to be rescued by the rest of the Seven, including Buck, who wasn't shot quite as badly as they thought). This one's really well plotted and structured -- if GM Atwater ever wants a career writing published Westerns, she could have one.

And [livejournal.com profile] eglantier's already recced "The Name of the Game," but I heartily second it. Over 300 pages of of glorious Ezra angst and h/c, plus a really nicely done kidnapping plot.

edited, because I got two of the titles mixed up

Also, I blanket rec anything and everything by NotTasha (http://www.nottasha.com/fanfic.htm), who specializes in Ezra-centric gen action and h/c. Most of her fics are in the medium-to-long range (the two I other fics I recced above areboth epic-length).

Ditto about NotTasha http://www.nottasha.com - especially her Down the Amazon series.
Ditto Jean Graham's other fic (she wrote Bodyguards: The Name of the Game).

Everything by Meg Tipper http://megtipper.tripod.com/mag72.htm - I really like her Four Kingdoms AU and her NYC AU, but her OW is great too. I like Moon Boxing, Boston Bound and Greene's Knights.

Deathdogs Tourist Guide to M7 fiction http://www.deathdogs.net/mag7.html has links to some really good stories sorted by category and character.
I'm an Ezra fan and Shenandoah Waltz (linked from here) will have you sobbing. I will have to find you a working link, it's broken now (oh, no!).

M7 fiction awards are the Magnificent Malarkey Awards here
http://malarkeyseven.0catch.com/

Eleanor Tremayne has an absolutely great WIP called Mongoose: A Sensible Man here that is very well-written and well-researched Ezra h/c:
http://www.m7bedlam.com/fanfic_et.htm
She has some shorter, complete stories there too and all are excellent.

There is at least one more author I'd like to rec, but my link to her site is broken, alas. It's Beth aka Midge and she had a FBI AU where Ezra was a profiler that I thought was very good; the stories were better than an episode of CSI.

ENJOY.

oh, Mongoose, it's so completely epically good. does anybody know if there's a slightest chance it's going to be finished someday?

also, here're this FBI story: run like hell (http://web.archive.org/web/20040820100042/embaker.topcities.com/runlikehell1.htm), it's really, really cool, and there're more from this universe on site.

i love Gil Hale.

http://www.thebrowsery.us/gilhale/m7-toc.html

her latest, 'Unforgotten', is damned good.

Charlotte C Hill is also good, but you'll have to google for her work; a lot of her stuff is slash, which is blocked at work for me.

i also recommend an author called BMP. excellent stuff.

http://www.blackraptor.net/m7fic/contents/authors-b.htm#bmp

see especially 'Aftermath' and 'The Idiot's Guide to Petty Theft'. 'Ugly Eddy' is a great piece of laugh-fic. oh, hell, she's just good, ok?

in addition to the blackraptor site above, lady angel's library is a decent place for gen fic:

http://lalibrary.net/m7/authors/authors.html

the worst thing about mag7 fandom is that it's rather disorganized, and the archives aren't easily searchable like some of the bigger fandoms. ne'ertheless, good fic is worth much trouble.

happy reading!

That's the problem I was having -- I went through and basically downloaded everything at chrislarabee.com, but the rest of the sites weren't as helpful (not only could I not search, but there wasn't a 'print story' option, which makes things difficult when there are 20+ chapters). I'm have a field day with all of these recs, however:)

Thank you!

Auburn's Tale of Deed at http://www.eternalvox.net/%7Eauburn/toad1.html is the story that first got me interested in the M7 fandom. It focuses on Ezra and Vin to a slightly lesser extent.

Definitely some good authors rec'd here. I already mentioned the SG-1 / Mag 7 crossovers by zorrorojo, in a post a couple days ago, but in case you missed it:
http://m7slash.com/viewuser.php?uid=3

I also really like the series by cattraine where the boys are criminals in a biker gang - it's a bit dark, but ends rather happily (Chris/Vin):
Dark Angels: http://www.geocities.com/fanficmag7/7slash7/darkangels1.htm
and sequel Burning Angel: http://www.geocities.com/fanficmag7/7slash7/burningangel1.htm
I think she might also have a werewolf AU that I like, but can't find the link for right now.

Fabulously long Chris/Buck/Vin modern AU (They're bounty hunters! In Atlanta!) Very long, haven't quite finished it yet, but I sort of read it out of order so I know there's a happy ending. Enjoy!

Oh, and I have a very long, very awesome Chris/Buck/Vin that's sad. Would that be okay? I mean, I survived it ... And I have hope the sequel will be happy! Maybe ...

I know you're soured on NotTasha and on Ezra, but (other than fics you reccommended yourself) her Chess Game stories are the first ones that come to mind when I'm thinking about a positive portrayal of Nathan. They're pretty short, but about friendship between him and Ezra and while both Nathan and Ezra are injured during the series it's off-screen.
