For fans of this pairing, this story and these authors are very likely already among your favorites. It's no small wonder considering some of the wonderful stories they've produced but for those who aren't exclusive Spike/Xander shippers, this series is an excellent way to start.

Based late season one, Sands of Time begins with an abused Xander seeking temporary refuge at Giles' apartment after his father attacks him for coming home late. From there this series takes on a life of it's own, with Xander learning - sometimes joyfully, sometimes painfully - exactly who he is, where he belongs in the world, and most of all, who he belongs with, both in family and in romance. It would be a disservice to the series as a whole, however, to say that this was only a romance. It's about much more than that. It's about friendship, about family, about growing up, about learning who you are and who you need to be. It's definitely worth the read, especially if you like plenty of hurt and plenty of comfort.
