After years of trying to find places to rent it, I finally broke down and bought Due South (the entire series) on DVD. SQUEE!!! Ahem. Some observations:
-I don't know much about Fraser/Vecchio stories, but in Fraser/Kowalski stories, Vecchio is exclusively written as he was post undercover job. That makes sense most of the time, but it's going to bother me in the case of AUs, because before Vegas Vecchio was an absolute mushball when it came to Fraser. Heck, now that I'm rewatching with fanfic in mind (the show originally came out when I was still in high school, before I'd used the internet, much less encountered fanfiction), I can actually see a F/V pairing (and if anyone wanted to recommend a good story in that pairing, it would not go amiss:)
-Fraser was dumbed down became a lot more innocent after season one. Heck, in the pilot, he's no more naive than I am!
-Dief *sucked* in the pilot. I'm so glad they recast him. And kudos to the new dog (Lincoln?) and his trainer, because I've never seen an animal with more personality.
-OMG, Paul Gross is *hot*! Seriously, he's aging fairly well (though I don't think his looks are supposed to be all that incredible in Slings and Arrows), but he really was amazingly attractive back in his DS days. For once, fanfic doesn't exaggerate someone's looks.
Okay, so what does all of this have to do with the price of tea in the Yukon? Well, in celebration of my new-found lust for DS, I'm declaring this DS week here at Epic Recs! All DS, all the time. Well, except for...
I've decided to toss in a few more reader's recs posts, primarily because I have no place to sound off on new shows I'm watching and also because I'm desperately looking for new fandoms. Hopefully greater variety will inspire ya'll to post a few more recs (hint, hint).

Hey, just wanted to say that I've been watching this community from the beginning and love it, since my fav type of fanfic are long/plotty/have-happy-endings, so keep up the good work!
Also, I am so happy to hear that this week is dS week-- as somebody who got sucked into dS a paltry two months ago, I am definitely looking forward to the epics you have to recommend, especially if you can dig up some hidden gem that I have somehow missed. btw, am definitely with you on Vecchio being a mushball regarding Frasier--I mean, during the Victoria's Secret arc, I feel that Vecchio is a *way* better friend to Fraser than Fraser is to him, to the point that I was pretty pissed on Vecchio's behalf at the end of season 1. um, /rant. anyways, just wanted to let you know that this community is much appreciated, so thanks!
The thing that gets me about Vecchio is most people write him as a jerk and an asshole to Fraser specifically. I don't know if that is a result of the fandom rift that occured when the new Ray came on board (which I've only recently heard about and don't quite get -- seriously, I liked the show more in the first couple of seasons, but that had less to do with Ray and more to do with the writers), but I love both Rays and, honestly, the first season is all about how much Ray V is bending over backwards to make Fraser happy. So, yeah. I totally agree with your rant:)
