Review:
“Literacy” is set after the classic episode “The Wire”. Still recuperating, Garak asks Bashir to read to him, not bothering with small details like the fact that the doctor doesn’t actually speak Kardasi, but merely understands the phonetic script. This proves to be a changing point in their relationship and things start to evolve in a romantic direction, especially after a chance encounter with Gul Dukat makes Julian understand exactly what kind of book he has been reading aloud.

The Hoyden is one of those truly fantastic authors we long to find in our fandoms. The dialogue, the interaction, the characterization (from Garak’s scheming nature to Julian’s insecurity about his genetic enhancements), the smut – everything is written so perfectly that it makes this one of the best stories I’ve found for this pairing.

Sounds intriguing, even though I don't really know Deep Space Nine Canon.

OMG! READ!
This story is one of my favorites, although I am familiar with DS9. It's hilarious.

I hope you give it (and DS9, which is my favorite Trek series) a try (and enjoy both throughly, of course).

I did, and enjoyed it very much. I listened to a podfic, I'm pretty sure it was Letters from the North, that had Julian in it. And Cardassians.

My favorite Trek was Voyager, so I appreciate your Tom icon. I didn't get into DS9 very much, but I'm willing to give it another try, just to watch for the slash implications with Julian.

I'm glad you enjoyed the fic! Voyager comes a close second for me, though I usually enjoyed it more because of the characters rather than the plot.

It is, isn't? I'm glad other people enjoyed it as much as I did.

Does anyone know where there's a copy of this fic still online?
