Review:
After Harry defeats Voldemort, Severus is sentenced to ten years in Azkaban for his accumulated Death Eater activites. His only visitor is Harry, who first comes to vent his residual anger over Dumbledore's death. Later, however, he softens and slowly he and Severus build a friendship. However, it soon becomes apparent that Severus will never survive ten years in the world's most hellish prison...
Most fanfic authors fall into the trap of rushing the timeline of their stories, with characters meeting, falling in lust, falling in love, and making a life-long commitment all within the course of a few days. Rae goes the other direction, as Harry and Severus literally spend years learning about each other and discovering the many possible layers of their relationship. The end result is a believable, beautiful friendship that matures plausibly into something deeper.
Rae has a tendency to use gimmicks in her writing and I have to admit the one she uses in this story doesn't particularly work for me. However, once you get past the opening sentence for each section, you have a fascinating story of slowly growing acceptance and love.
