Summary:
Jeeves comes into a bit of money. Enter ruses, angry words over gentlemen's accessories, Bingo attempting to be helpful, and a trip to India.

Review:
When Jeeves's uncle dies and leaves him his estate, it seems at first that nothing need change in Bertie's and Jeeves's lives. However, things shift subtly, and Jeeves soon realizes that his obligations to his uncle's estate in India, require him to leave Bertie's service. It's a painful wake-up call to Bertie, who doesn't know how to express his feelings to Jeeves and drops into a deep depression, until he and Bingo work out (increasingly farcical) plans to attempt to win Jeeves back or somehow work Bertie back into Jeeves's life.

The tone of this story, while preserving a Wodehouseian voice and humor--particularly with Bertie's plans--is overall rather heart-wrenching. They love one another, but it's a love that can't be expressed publicly and external obligations force them apart. Bertie's inability to communicate or deal with his emotions, as well as his little glimpses of Jeeves's loneliness really get to me.

Fortunately, they (mostly Jeeves) are able to resolve things, and have a happy ending once things are cleared up.

'Do you hate me, Bingo?' I said quietly. 'I wouldn't blame you, you know. I rather hate myself at the moment.'

I expected some sort of blow, but Bingo merely patted my hand. 'I don't understand you, Bertie; females are trouble enough. But you always were excellent at getting yourself into difficult situations. I suppose you just can't help it.'

I cracked a eyelid open. 'You don't mind, then?'

'Mind? Bertie, if you know just one thing about me, you know I am all for love. Love! It's the most beautiful thing in the world. Now, if you think you've found it--'

'I did! Oh, Bingo, I did, dash it. And I let it walk out the door and run off to India.'
