Summary:
A series of stories telling the story of Pat and Jonny and their life together.

Review:
In hockey fandom so many of the stories featuring Kane and Toews seem to portray their characterizations in a very similar manner: Toews is domineering, possessive and serious while Kane is a fun-loving fuck up. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against those characterizations (I love fanfic simply because authors are free to explore and are only limited by their imagination). However, part of the reason why I adore this verse so much is because it presents a different look at Kane and Toews.

The relationship dynamics and the characterizations still ring true, just through a rather realistic and well-rounded lens. When it comes to a truly touching and romantic story about these two, this is my go-to verse, destined to make me sigh happily each and every time I read it. This is not to say these stories are nothing but teeth rotting fluff, they’re not. They deal with issues such as coming out to family and friends, communication between partners, privacy issues and the reality of playing a game that can, at times, be dangerous. Oxidative does a great job handling these issues while underscoring their actions and decisions with the deep love between Kane and Toews. Several of the stories also contain some scorching sex scenes between the two that are all the more hot simply because of the love that is evident in their interactions.

The stories weren’t necessarily written in chronological order but I’ve linked each part below, in my own personal interpretation of chronological order up until the last three which can take place anytime after the wedding and pre-honeymoon.

Slow Down Jonny and Pat, how the relationship started.
Rush In I'd love to see them telling someone [about their relationship].
As We are Patrick proposes.
Cut It Loose Jonny has a bachelor party. The guys try their best to get him to loosen up.
’til the Night is Gone “That Kane/Toews proposal fic has made me feign for more, but I want to see them actually get married. [...]"
On and on Pre-honeymoon
Alive and Well Kaner being completely wrecked because Jonny got hurt during a game and not knowing how to react.
untitled Married verse drabble
Zero Pat and Jon's first moment where they get to flex their spousal rights.

I was suspicious when I checked my phone at work to find nine new email notifications but this was a pleasant surprise. Thank you, very much. I'm flattered by your review and recommendation.

THANK YOU for writing such a fabulous series! :-) I think I have re-read this entire series more than any other story in the hockey fandom. It's truly an all time favorite of mine.

It's a good series. Except I can't get over two really glaring errors and one more minor one.

1. Citizenship does not work that way. We (and I suspect no other country either) do not just hand out citizenship to random non-residents who take a test. You have to live in the country for at least three years. Playing hockey in Chicago and/or being from Buffalo does not satisfy that requirement. And immigrating to reside in Canada isn't a cakewalk either although marrying a Canadian is one way to make that somewhat easier (still not a guarantee). As a Canadian and as a child of immigrants to Canada, I'm kind of offended.

2. You don't have to be a Canadian to get married in Canada or the thousands of gay couples who come visit for a weekend and get married would be SOL. You also don't have to be Canadian to marry a Canadian.

3. Kane's wish for a Catholic wedding... while it would be *wonderful* to live in a world where a Catholic wedding ceremony was something a gay couple could contemplate.... we don't live in that world yet.

I completely agree with you, and am sorry you found that part of the story offensive. As a layperson I fully admit I'm not familiar with any country's, my own included, citizenship requirements. In fact my only exposure to Canadian citizenship requirements comes from watching an old Meg Ryan movie years ago (which Hollywood, so I'm sure it's not realistic either).

That part of the story did not ring true to me on a practical level, either, but I truly enjoyed the sentiment behind it. I read it as one character choosing to adjust part of his national identity because he wanted to share it with his partner. Yes, they could have just gotten married, either in Canada or somewhere in the US recognizing gay marriage, or I'm guessing Johnny would have had a stronger case trying for American citizenship due to the fact that he lives in the US for parts of the year. But my interpretation (I have no idea the author's intent) was that it was a romantic gesture that Pat undertook on his own knowing it would mean a lot to Johnny.

Leaving behind the realism and looking only at the sentiment worked for me, but we all approach and interpret things based on our own life experiences. As you appear to be someone who is proudly Canadian and you mention your parents were immigrants, I can understand your frustration that something used as a large plot device was flawed whereas I am more apt to handwave and ignore.

Again, I'm sorry you didn't like that part of the story but I do appreciate your perspective.

I
I love this series so much I have read it like 10 times. Kane and Tazer are so perfect.

In regards to the citizenship thing I think when you read fic like this you need to kind of take everything with a grain of salt. Of course its not real its not suppose to be. Not trying to diminish your feelings of being offended just saying I think its standard for details like that to get molded to fit a story line.
