Title: Disclosures
Fandom: Marvel
Pairing: Coulson/Clint
Categories: Amnesia, AU, Dark
Length: Epic (67,000)
Warnings: Scenes of Graphic Torture, Permanent Injury

Summary: Phil Coulson is miserable, distrusted by most of SHIELD, and still doesn't remember why.

It's only going to get worse before it gets better.

Review: The story starts out with Coulson not remembering what happened on his last mission. All he has to go on is balistic evidence that Hawkeye tried to kill him and the fact that everybody in Shield thinks he's about to go rouge.

With most characters that would be a sign that they need to start angsting and looking for answers. This incarnation of Coulson is just a little too crazy for that. Which is really what makes this story work.

Coulson is crazy enough to try and take on Loki single handed, and Clint is too crazy to stop him, and yet their relationship somehow remains believable through-out. Which is a real testiment to how well Gqgqqt knows their versions of the characters.

hi, author here!
Hi! First off, huge huge huge thanks for the rec, oh my god. I was so surprised to see it here and I'm flattered a million times over.

I do have a quick question though—I noticed you tagged this NC-17, which is a leap up from how I originally rated it. Could I maybe ask why you upped the rating?

(and if it's not a lot of trouble, sorry, I know I'm bringing up a lot of stuff, but maybe if I could ask you about the choice of "AU" and "Established Relationship" tags, too?)

Re: hi, author here!
I raised the rating because stories that involve graphic torture, particularly involving mental torture and permanent mutilation, are something I'm extremely cautious when rating.Particularly when they walk the fine edge between a character being a martyr and being suicidal.

Since this comm includes recs by a variety of reccers and in a variety of genre's my feeling has always been better safe then sorry when it comes to rating something.

I'm sorry if the established relationship tag was off base, I can of course remove it. My impression from Natasha's reaction to Coulson were that she viewed as Clint's significant other.

As for the AU tag, I usually consider anything that isn't canon as at least partially AU. Since Coulson doesn't lose his fingers in Movie Canon, your story couldn't have happened off screen during the movies. Which meant the story was either AU or Post-canon. Since the Avenger's movie hasn't come out yet, I went with AU. Just because there is no way to tell what is going to happen in canon yet.

Please let me know if this explanation doesn't make sense and I'll do my best to explain my reasoning further.

Re: hi, author here!
Rating on the safe side in the comm makes perfect sense to me! I always rate on the safe side for sexual content, but I tend to rate low for violence, and since there was no sexual content except very light implications in the last paragraphs, I rated low. But I don't mind you rating along your guidelines at all, in this case. Much appreciated, totally clears that up!

And the AU tag makes sense if we're defining AU as something that separates it from movie canon, so that's totally fine.

If it's not too much trouble, I actually would prefer not to have the Established Relationship tag—the fic was intended to be a slow build into the relationship (and has a relevant tag on AO3, and a key part of the events is how the mutual feelings changed over time) so I worry it might kind of confuse people about what's going on to see Established Relationship here and then go to the fic, haha.

Thank you so much for answering my concerns and putting up with my nitpicking. Hugely appreciated, and thanks so much for the rec, again!
