Summary: On the wall behind the High King's chair hung a great spear: its bronze point shone in the firelight, and the feathers bound about it looked fresh, but there were dark stains on the wood.

Review: This story takes the Chronicles of Narnia and ratcheted up the dark undertones to the nth degree. Aslan doesn't return to destroy the white witch and his death doesn't immediately right the imbalance in the Deep Magic, so a sacrifice must be made.

A lot of what makes this fic so compelling is the inevitability of what is coming. You don't necessarily know exactly what it is, but you know that it's bad.

I suggest reading through this story twice. The first time to experience the story and the second time to pick up all of the hints Cofax wove into it.

Fair warning though, this is not a nice fic and if character death upsets you I don't recommend trying to read it.
