Summary:
In the spring of 1805, two regency gentlemen find solace in each other's company. Solace becomes desire, and desire changes everything.
A Regency AU, set in England during the Napoleonic War. Adam is a member of the landed gentry, Kristopher is a country-pastor turned Army Chaplain.
Review:
Rejected by their loves, both Kris and Adam meet while dealing with broken hearts. Kris finds himself in the awkward position of being the new pastor at the church near the manor his ex-fiance lives, while Adam has returned to his family home after his secret relationship is ended by his lover. While they clash at first, they end up being drawn to each other, and become friends through their joint love of music. War interferes, though they continue to correspond until Kris and Adam's brother are taken as a prisoners of war. Through misunderstandings and war and the help of two fellow prisoners, Kris and Adam are finally reunited.
I'm a sucker for Regency AUs, and this one is a delight, a long angsty romance with two men dealing with their love for each other. The characters really came to life. There's also a larger-than-cameo appearance by Horatio Hornblower and Archie Kennedy as fellow prisoners of war; though I'm not very familiar with the characters, I really liked their romance and interactions with the other characters. Altogether, the time period, language and settings really gelled for me. It's a story you can really sink into for many hours.
