Summary: First; It wasn't even my idea to write a journal -- it was Liz's idea. She is driving us nuts trying to get each of us to keep a journal as a record of our strange life. I think everyone is giving it a try except Michael -- He's immune to nagging and I'm not sure if he can write anyway. So, one day when I was feeling a little lonely and cut-off -- for good reason -- she suggested I start my journal and that I could write and talk to it just like a person. Gee, my own personal imaginary-friend!
Review: This series has been on my too rec list since I first started reccing an epic_recs. Unfortunately it disappeared from the internet for almost a year and I'd almost given up hope on finding it again. Luckily for me and you the Author decided to create a new site (or rather series of sites) to host his awesome series.
The series breaks down into three parts Kyle's Diary was written first and picks up where Roswell ended. The Antar Chronicles picks up right after Kyle's Diary ends. Secret's and Lies was written last but is a prequel to Kyle's Diary taking place during seasons 1-3 of Roswell. I'll leave it up to you which order you want to read the series.
This series is one of the best 'alien heritage' fics I've ever run across. It takes the soap-opera-esk Roswell series and twists it into a Space-Opera. Complete with epic roadetrips, alien possession, alien religions, body transformation, coming into ones power, and alternate forms of marriage and child bearing.
Kyle is a wonderful audience stand-in character. He knows pretty much everything the audience knows from the series, but doesn't understand all the details involved in Max, Michael, and Isabel's past and heritage. His discoveries and transformation into an alien-esk being are clearly laid out, without loosing any of the emotional impact. Even after he becomes an alien his background as a Sherrif's son really comes through.
The Antar Chronicles brings in even more aliens and alien culture since the story starts out when the Roswell leave Earth. It's an interesting trip into the middle of an alien civil war.
Secret & Lies hearkens back to the soap opra-esk Roswell story line and deals more with the consequences of having a secret gay relationship when you're the sheriff's son in a small, judgmental town.
All together this is a great series that shows how Kyle Valenti grows from a suspicious high school student into the high-priest of an entire alien species.
