Title:[that's] my oppurtunity, to feel brave
Fandom: Teen Wolf
Pairing: Gen (Derek/Stiles)
Categories: AU, Asexual, Domestic, Friendship, Romance
Length: Medium (15k)
Warnings:

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sa_kun
Website: Sa-kun's Ao3

Summary: After the events of season 1, Derek tries to come to grips with himself and where he stands. Basically, it's 15k of asexy fluff, with self-discovery and coming to terms with yourself and growing and stuff thrown in for good measure.

or: the one where Derek is an asexual potterymaker.

Review: This is a little bit shorter than my usual recs, but it is so rare to find an asexual romance of any length.

The story is an AU starting at the end of the first season where Derek walks away from werewolves and craziness and finds himself again.

Quiet, and sweet, the romance sneaks up on you, but never overwhelms the central theme of Derek's healing and growth.

Love this fic and you reccing it. I would argue that the pairing is Sterek and not gen. It's about Derek, but it's also about his asexual relationship with Stiles, and an asexual relationship is not gen.

Thank you for contacting me with your concern. I'll add the Pairing to the Gen. I had originally posted it as gen, with the romance discussed in the review itself, because the author had chosen to refer to the story as both gen and M/M. And as mentioned in the review, I felt that the main storyline was gen, with the romance as a subplot. So I listed it as I would any other fic that was primarily gen with background pairings. I'm sorry this manner of listing the story distressed you. And again thank you for contacting me.

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't distressed about it, I just know what I expect when I see a fic labelled as gen - and that fic definitely had an emphasis on the Sterek relationship. I do understand why the author would tag it as both though gen and a Sterek pairing though.

I loved this as well. The total disconnect between Derek and the understanding of sexual attraction was well done. On top of that though, was Stiles own feelings on the topic. The fic did a good job of showing that despite the categories, things aren't nearly that cut and dry.

The author did a such a great job of conveying Derek's oblivious to it and his struggles to come to terms with this new facet of himself when he does become aware of it, that it does sneak up on you. As a result, it really surprised me that it is labeled as Gen and has no pairing.

But then I thought about it and I like to think that the author purposely choose not to label it as Derek/Stiles or Derek&Stiles to preserve that obliviousness. I know that you sneakily worded your own review to not spoil who the romance involved.

Ooooh, I love your insight into this fic. You really captured what I loved about it, i.e. Derek's obliviousness. The author did tag it as Derek/Stiles, so I knew it was coming, but that didn't detract at all from Derek's slow realization.

I really loved how you managed to articulate exactly what I thought about the fic :)
