Review:

Don't run away! Yes, it is a FF.net fic, but it's good, I promise! I swear on all my previous recs that it's completely up to my usual standards.

Is anyone still reading? Well, just in case, let me entice you with this little tidbit: SaturnOolaa's Maybe Someday and its sequel Straight are my Koizumi/Kyon staple. Whenever I want to read this pairing, it's these two fics that I immediately go to. I've read almost all of the fic for this pairing, (not that it was hard, there aren't very many), and no other fic has the same level of polished writing and pinpoint accurate characterization as SaturnOolaa achieves.

The series takes place a few years on from canon, when the SOS Brigade has moved on to college. Haruhi, with her usual cavalier capriciousness, commands Kyon and Koizumi to become roommates, which sets off a chain of events that nearly tears the group of friends apart.

What's utterly remarkable about SaturnOolaa's characterization is the way the drama of the fic hinges on the characters' bad habits. Haruhi's obstinacy that everything go her way. Kyon's inability to step off the fine line of indecision. Koizumi's reckless indulgence of Haruhi's every whim and desire. It's only when they rise above those weaknesses that they are able to resolve the situation and stabilize their friendships into a new pattern that is admittedly less stable than the years old status quo, but a great deal more honest.
