Review:

I've been holding out on reccing this fic, since it falls just shy of my usual standards for recs, but upon reading it again, I've decided to go ahead and rec it because it's still an excellent fic, my pickiness notwithstanding.

It's a slightly different take on soulmates than most readers of fanfiction might be used to, based on Plato's The Symposium, which describes soulmates as originally being one body before Zeus split them in two out of fear of their strength. Q and Bond are a pair of such soulmates, wandering alone until such time as they come together, guided by fate. However, things aren't quite as simple as that.

Personally, I find dhampir72's Bond to be a little to soft for my image of Daniel Craig's Bond, and more romantic than the norm for James Bond 00Q fanfiction. What finally swayed me to rec in spite of this is the atmosphere that the author's writing creates. There's a sense of gentle happiness but also of melancholy; the whole fic feels like being comfortably tucked up indoors on a dim, rainy day. The pacing is excellent, the premise a creative take on a familiar trope, and the epilogue like wrapping your hands around a mug of your favorite hot drink. Definitely worth a read.
