Readers' Recs -- Humor

  • Jun. 22nd, 2014 at 7:01 AM
Our Humor theme week has come to an end and we would love to hear from you. Do you have any favorite stories to tickle our funny bones? We'd love it if you'd share with us!
  • Recced stories can feature any pairing as long as they match the theme. Fan art, podfic, and fan vid recs are also welcome.
  • You don't need to write a review (unless you want to). All you need to include are title, author, and a link to the story.
  • Fic or media as a single file are preferred, if available.
  • If you'd like to use our reccing template, you can find it under the cut.

Previous Readers' Recs topics can be found here.

Humor recs
Title: Malarkies and Mayhem (and sequels) by eMu3
Fandom: Weiss Kreuz
Pairing: Nagi/Omi, Aya/Ken, Schuldig/Yohji
Categories: utter crack
Length: epic
Warnings: so very ooc, last part is a WIP without any hope of ever being finished, OCs in the last part
Author Website: eMu3 @ FF.net (https://www.fanfiction.net/u/276967/eMu3)
Summary:
Malarkies and Mayhem: Schwarz, Weiss, Chibi Torture, brilliant disguises, Sims, gay ensembles, bleachy goodness, garish bows, a hamsterful intermission, pink scrunchies and a gay prom.
Holiday Special: “Jesus Aya, it’s not gonna come off if we don’t pull it!” Ken snapped.
Banned in Boston: What those adult men do behind closed doors is their own business. As long as it’s consensual and they keep Bombay out of it, I don’t have a problem with it.
Review:
These are old, practically ancient, and I don't know if anyone still remembers the fandom. And I'm not sure if I haven't recced those years ago (I checked and didn't find anything). Still this is pure cringe-inducing crack. Read at your own disgression. You might incur pain: mental pain, strained muscles (from grinning/laughing) and bleeding head wounds (from thumping your head on the desk)

To balance the old, here some recent fics. All from Teen Wolf fandom with a nice mix of humor, fluff and romance:
Title: Do You Wanna Date My Avatar? by ChristyCorr
Pairing: Derek/Stiles
Length: medium (~ 9000 words)
Author Website: ChristyCorr @ AO3 (http://archiveofourown.org/users/ChristyCorr/pseuds/ChristyCorr)
Summary: In hindsight, maybe introducing the local werewolf contingent to the wonderful world of online gaming hadn't exactly been Stiles' best idea.
Comes with podfic!

Title: The Importance of Turning Around Three Times Before Lying Down by otter
Pairing: Derek/Stiles
Length: long (~ 30.000 words)
Author Website: otter @ AO3 (http://archiveofourown.org/users/otter/pseuds/otter)
Summary: It’s like this dog has walked out of all of Stiles’ childhood dreams and into the real world just because Stiles wanted it hard enough. He is the most awesome dog ever, and he and Stiles have a bond. A deep, unbreakable bond because this animal is his soul mate, obviously. Now he just has to convince the dog of that.
Great fanart at the end of last chapter!

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] aggybird
Author Website: aggybird @ AO3 (http://archiveofourown.org/users/aggybird/pseuds/aggybird)

I don't see this one previously recced, but I may be wrong.

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7250485/1/A-Seemingly-Simple-Game

Fandom: Harry Potter

Title: A Seemingly Simple Game

Author's Summary: Faced with nothing better to do, the Trio break out Monopoly. Complicated by the fact that Ron's never played before and this IS Hogwarts, the game somehow becomes rife with outrageous corruption, lousy service, and jail time for minor traffic violations.

Review: This is an expanded one-shot. Chapter One deals with Monopoly and in Chapter Two, Ginny has joined the, and they breaf out The Game Of Life. I really like the way Ron, and later Ginny, comment "Is that how it works with Muggles, then?" and Harry and Hermione are left trying to eplain something fairly abitrary or handwave it somehow. I always find this fic funny, and it's one of my favourite short Gen fics.

This excerpt shows why it is they end up playing the two games they do:

"Well, I did bring some board games with me," Hermione told them. "I have some two-person games but those are obviously out. I have Cluedo, Monopoly, Scrabble, and Life."

"I have never heard of any of those," Ron announced.

"Well, Cluedo is a mystery game," Hermione explained. "We each pick one of six characters to be the guest of Dr. Black. He is murdered by one of us before the game starts and we have to investigate and figure out who killed him, with which of six weapons, and in which room."

"That doesn't make any sense," Ron protested. "Wouldn't we know where he was killed when we found the body? And what killed him? If this is a Muggle bored game then I'm guessing they aren't using wands."

"Well…I guess the body could have been moved," Hermione said lamely. "And for some of those weapons you're right but if you get hit over the head with the pipe or the candlestick I think the wound would look about the same."

"Then that already narrows it down and we're being held back for no apparent reason," Ron complained. "Are we not allowed to see the body or something? And why are we investigating anyway? Shouldn't the Muggle Aurors be looking into it?"

"It's just a game, Ron," Harry told him, shaking his head. "Still, I think it's best when you have all six players. Also, if you think that I'm playing Scrabble with you then you've got another thing coming."

Fifty Shades of Erik by Yaegaki (PG-13)
Title: Fifty Shades of Erik

Fandom: X-Men: First Class
Pairing: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier
Categories: Humor, Crack, Alternate Universe
Length: Medium (10,289)
Warnings: N/A

Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: Yaegaki on AO3 (http://archiveofourown.org/users/Yaegaki/pseuds/Yaegaki)

Summary: In which Charles works at an adult store, and Erik-the-German-Cop comes in to buy condoms everyday because he has a secret crush on Charles.

Review:
There's just something about awkward!Erik that never fails to make me grin like an idiot and spend an evening giggling into my pillow. Perhaps it's because he's supposed to be this big, bad villain. Maybe it's due to him always coming of as this serious, hardened criminal. Or, maybe it's because imagining a genocidal maniac trying to hit on a sex store worker is one of the greatest thoughts I've ever had slipped in my head.

Whatever the reason, something about this story drew my interest, and whatever that 'thing' was, it also kept me squealing into my blankets long past midnight.
