Author's Summary: Harry never made it, and so the future of Magical Britain was re-written. Seventeen years after the fall of Hogwarts, the Commander of Voldemort’s Death Eater Army contemplates what true freedom really means.

Review:
Draco is the Death Eater Commander in Voldemort's post-war regime, but he's secretly enabling the resistance -- led in part by Hermione Granger -- to do its work. He's impressive at moving through a world in which he's both feared by many and living under the constant threat of death.

This in no way fits this week's themes of Supernatural (beyond the usual HP magic) or Horror, but it fits Dark!Fic -- or at least as dark as this wuss of a reader is prepared to go -- in that Harry's long dead and an ailing Voldemort is still terrorizing the Wizarding world. Granger's a hardened fighter who's had to reconcile herself to the casualties of terrorist attacks, and Draco has become a man with only one mission since the death of his son.

There are a lot of sharp edges, but the heart of this story is a meeting between Granger and Draco, in which each lets down their guard enough to set plans and push the boundaries of their loyalties and their relationship to one another.

This fic is about choices, as Rizzle confirms in the author's notes. Here a resistance fighter may even have more freedom than Voldemort's trusted man in some ways. But through their efforts to change the world, both of them will soon find themselves with far more choice than they've ever had. It's a riveting read.
