Author's Summary: “Yusuf,” she says, dangerously, “did you give my point man a love potion?”
Review:
While testing a sedative Yusuf created to lower a mark's inhibitions, Arthur leans in to kiss Eames, and everything changes course from there. But given how deeply repressed Arthur is, his drug-induced compulsions are what the rest of us would call subtle. Eames is a genius at interpreting Arthur's slightest gesture, but unfortunately for him, he has trouble seeing the bigger picture on his own.
Gunsandbutter is one of those talented authors who keeps the plot moving while giving every moment sharply written attention, even characters who appear in only one sentence (like "a thin bespectacled girl who 'accidentally' brushes a mustache-tattooed finger against Eames’s arse.") This is exactly what I like: brilliant dialog, constant growth and change, little images I've never seen elsewhere, vulnerability and self-deception, sex appeal, humor, and a rewarding ending.
