Summary:
The genie has had many masters in his long life.

Review:
An AU of Genie's history, showing his various masters throughout the ages. I really liked the author's twist on Genie's timeline, which explains the anachronisms in the movie, and the post-apocalyptic section of the tale. Some of the segments are a bit angsty, with various side characters dying (and the aforementioned apocalyptic scenario). Mostly, I liked the way this version of the genie meshes so well with canon--you can really see this AU as dovetailing into the movie itself--and the wonder and peculiar perspective he has on Aladdin's world. The fic's genie is more melancholy and thoughtful, but no less enjoyable.

ETA2: It's been pointed out to me that a section (2005) contains RPF allusions that may be upsetting; it's implied that one of Genie's owners is an infamous real terrorist, though never named. Somehow this aspect of the fic sailed right over my head when I read it.
