Introducing a shiny new fandom: Criminal Minds. I really wanted to post this last week during Small Fandom, but alas, it was not done until earlier this week.
Title: A Different Kind of Solitude
Fandom: Criminal Minds
Pairing: Aaron/Spencer
Categories: case-file, mystery, romance
Length: epic (~50,000)
Warnings: none other than minimal violence when Hotch and Reid are first abducted in chapter 1
Author on LJ:
kyrdwyn
Website: The Dominic Keating Estrogen Brigade
Author's Summary: When Aaron and Spencer are trapped together by an unsub, things change between them while the team searches for their lost friends.
Review:
A Different Kind of Solitude brings two of my favourite things in fanfic together: a case that needs solving fast and a budding romance. I loved how the two storylines -- the rest of the BAU team trying to crack the case and Hotch and Reid's developing relationship -- are juxtaposed. Best of two worlds, really.
Abduction stories sometimes make me nervous because its usually associated with extensive violence and torture; this story has none. Hotch and Reid were not physically harmed and their imprisonment was fairly cushy as far as kidnappings go. *cough*Jane, it's safe for you to read*cough*
While Hotch and Reid had feelings for each other prior to their abduction and the imprisonment merely provided a opportunity for them to get close, the story does deal with what happens after their release. Ideally, the 'after' part could have been a bit longer, but that might just be the angst-phile in me talking.
If you like romance and case!fic in the same package, this is not a story to be missed.
