Review:
When Chuck decides to "dump" Sarah and begin dating Lou, a sandwich shop owner and daughter to a crime boss, Casey can't bring himself to like the idea and decides to take matters into his own hands and offer Chuck an alternative arrangement.

If you're anything like myself, you came into this fandom a little late. Personally, it wasn't until the last episode of the first season was airing that I actually bothered to start watching it. Boy, was I glad I did. Full of humor and a premise that is equal parts intriguing and ridiculous, it quickly made it to the top of my television viewing. If not just because it gave me a good laugh every week.

Even so, The New Arrangement is one of the less lighthearted fan fictions in the fandom despite keeping with the humorous premise of the series. It does a good job in exploring the reality of Chuck actually have all the NSA and CIA secrets downloaded to his brain, thereby making him the Intersect (i.e. a human super computer), and also with the fact that, should the new Intersect be built, Casey would be ordered to 'terminate' him. Something of which, as you'll find, isn't something that Casey is prepared to do, especially after he and Chuck being their new arrangement. Don't be scared off, however, by all the drama. It's well worth the read.

Note: I've included a link to the sequel, Getting Comfortable, but I'll warn you now that it ends open-ended so that, in the author's own words, the reader can decide what happens next. Use your own judgment to decide if you'll be able to 'deal' with that.

Gah. The ending of Getting Comfortable was IMO totally out of left field and turned me off of the author as a whole. Pity, because I rather enjoyed The New Arragement. (Also, I highly approve of more Chuck fics:)

I completely agree with you about the ending for Getting Comfortable. I've got that 'I wish I hadn't read it' thing going on even though I quite enjoyed this one. Then again, in fan fiction, I'm not much of a fan of open-endings. They just don't work as well as they would in a show or movie.

The problem is, the ending comes out of nowhere, is entirely OOC for Sarah, and basically makes no sense at all. It really felt like an amateurish move and since I personally think an author has to be *more* professional to be taken seriously on ff.net than elsewhere, I just sort of lost interest in both her and her stories. Which is a pity, because there really isn't enough long fic out there for Chuck.

I'm sorry that you felt that way about the ending. In all honesty I ended it that way because I couldn't decide myself what way i wanted it to go. I was a bit tired of doing the constant happy endings, but then I wasn't very keen on finishing it with character death either. And to this day I've never been happy with the ending. I can understand that as a reader that it might have seemed a bit lazy on my part. But honestly, it wasn't an easy decision to make.

And again I'm sorry that you lost interest in my fics. My aim in writing is for those who are reading to enjoy it, so it's completely understandable that after not enjoying the ending that you chose not to read anymore.

However, to say that I'm not 'professional' with my writing, I think is a little bit of an exaggeration. If I had ended the story (and other stories) the way you wanted me to, there would be others that would be unhappy with that. Everyone's taste is different and I think you need to take that into consideration before calling someone unprofessional.

If it helps, this is only my interpretation of the fic -- I'm sure lots (probably even most) other folks would disagree. And if you'd like, I can certainly screen that comment; just let me know.

Not at all. You're allowed to have your own opinion. But like I said. I'm just sorry it made you feel that way.

This is still one of my favourite Chuck fics; [livejournal.com profile] ru_salki99 has written (and continues to write) some of my all-time-favourite fics. Wrt the open ending, I think it's a good choice to make. I love happy endings, goodness knows, but I think this was (if fully ended) going to end in character death. With the open ending, I can still kid myself that Chuck and Casey are happy together with new names and a new life together somewhere in a different city. And open endings have *always* been controversial and *always* make people unhappy - see the furore surrounding Shelagh Delaney's 'A Taste of Honey' when it was first performed.

I don't know if it's okay to tag on other recommendations, but I also have a (very) soft spot for [livejournal.com profile] ru_salki99's Thelma and Louise, and its sequel Casey or Cake, both Chuck/Casey and with a definite happy ending.

Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of open-endings when it comes to fan fiction but that stands true for all fan fiction I read and not just this one. For me, it just doesn't work like it would for a television show or movie, where it's easier to ignore the possibilities you don't like, but then I know there are plenty of people who disagree. Even so, I definitely enjoyed 'The New Arragement' and a portion of 'Getting Comforable' and will likely continue to try out all of [livejournal.com profile] ru_salki99's fics as I get the chance, Chuck fandom or not.

Feel free to tag on a recommendation, we're certainly not going to mind! The more the merrier, as the saying goes, and for those of us who haven't read much of the author's work, it'll be a great jumping off point. :)

Have you tried Daddy's Girl? It's a rather fun 12-part series in which the basic premise is that Chuck and Casey are in a secret relationship, but everything gets complicated when Casey's adult daughter comes to visit.

ETA: (This is [livejournal.com profile] the_proofreader from my non-fanfic lj account, just getting confused about which one I'm logged in on... Don't mind me, nothing to see here... *whistles innocently*)
