Six months after 1x13 (I guess? I don't really watch the show. At any rate, the time when Jack left to guest star on Dr. Who), Jack Harkness returns to Torchwood. Pity Ianto's already found a new job. Not to mention the werewolf-like aliens running amok in Cardiff.
To be honest, I rarely read Torchwood fic -- I wasn't a huge fan of canon, Gwen drives me batty, and soppy Ianto does absolutely nothing for me. Which might just be why I enjoyed this fic so much -- the storyline is tighter than canon, Gwen is not central to the story (and when she does show up, she's not annoying), and Ianto is emphatically *not* soppy. He's calm, confident, competent, and the glue that holds Torchwood Three together and I can easily see why the Prime Minister was so eager to have him on her team. Couple all of that with a non-apologetic Jack (which may not be very likable, but which is very much in character), an engaging bit of mystery, and Owen and Tosh being awesome (and awesomely in character) and you have a great Torchwood fic even for people who don't usually read Torchwood.
