iesika
Author Website: Masterlist of Fics and Art
Author's Summary: "A murder mystery at Smallville High drives Kon to brush up on his detective skills – and his undercover work. He might need to call in some help. Good thing his best friend is an expert at both."
Review:
When a gay student at Smallville High is beat to death, Kon enlists Tim’s help to solve the case and decides to help the gay students to protect themselves and stand up to prejudice.
Dealing with a situation like homophobia in a small town High School could have been a recipe for disaster, but iesika handles the plot superbly. The murder investigation, while intrinsic to the plot, takes the backseat for a while to deal with the human element of those affected by the tragedy. This is helped by the great character ensemble: the OC's are interesting and fleshed out (Jake and Mr. Dalton, in particular, are absolutely fantastic) and the canon characters very well portrayed. This fic features one of my favorite depictions of Kon ever: still learning how to deal with his double life (especially the "normal" side of it), yet becoming wiser and maturing without losing himself in the process. The way he interacts with Tim is absolutely wonderful and their bond is felt even before the romantic element comes into place.
Great writing, an original plot and wonderful characterization make this the best DC fic I’ve read in months.
