In an alternate ending to the movie, Alan is grabbed (very nearly literally) by a pack of velociraptors. He soon learns that raptors are far more intelligent than he'd ever imagined.

Epic length Yuletide fic! And it's good! Santa was *very* nice this year.

This fic is all about the raptors -- Alan is primarily there for the raptors to have someone to play off of and Billy's primarily there to... satisfy the prompt, I'm guessing.  As such, if you're looking for an Alan/Billy romance fic this probably isn't your best choice.  However, if you're interested in learning more about how velociraptors interact (in the JP universe, at any rate) then you should definitely check this fic out.  The author has not only managed to create a fascinating society among the velociraptors, but s/he's also populated said society with a bevy of intriguing and wonderfully fleshed out OCs (my favorite is definitely Bob).  You also have a bit of mystery as to why Alan is treated as he is by the pack, as well as quite a bit of action (as they are still on an island of dinosaurs), and even some elements of hurt/comfort as the raptors help Alan recover from his wounds.

Up Close and Personal is a unique and intriguing entry into the Jurassic Park fandom, perfect for dinosaur lovers.
