Review:
When Semus goes completely nuts in second year and burns all of Harry's most prized possessions (because Harry's a Parselmouth), it competely changes the course of Harry's destiny. He's still friends with Ron and Hermione, but Snape sees an opportunity to twist Harry to his will and Draco finds that his obsession can take many different forms.

Re-reading my summary, I have to admit that it makes Inter Vivos sound rather darker than it actually is. Don't get me wrong, this fic is quite dark in places (at least by my standards), but the worst that can be said for Snape's relationship with Harry is that he's a dick (gasp!) and it takes a looong time for him to get over himself and his prejudices. And Draco's obsession basically consists of him deciding if Harry won't cooperate by being Draco's rival, well then Harry is just going to have to be Draco's friend (so there).

(Um, I might have been just the slightest bit over-tired when I wrote this rec.)

In a slightly more serious tone, I love the fact that this fic addresses Harry's abuse (especially that *Harry* addresses his abuse, even if it does take an enormous shove to get him going). I love that, despite squabbles, Harry remains best friends with Ron and Hermione. I love the fact that it takes ages for Snape to figure out his own feelings for Harry (though, admittedly, his eventual affection for Harry does seem a bit sudden). I love that Draco is clearly young for much of this fic, but at no point is he ever bratty. I love that Severus and Sirius may play nice in front of Harry, but never really get along (itching powder might've been mentioned). I love that much of the morality of the story is done in shades of gray. I love the hurt/comfort, which includes quite a bit of hurt and even more comfort. And, most of all, I love the fact that all of the characters make mistakes at some point in time or other and no one is perfect.

In the end, Inter Vivos is a long, satisfying fic for folks who like Harry/Draco, Snape-as-Harry's-mentor, and a strong friendship between Harry, Hermione, and Ron.
