Summary: Trunks was about to return to the past to give the heart disease antidote to Goku when a tragedy hit. Would he be able to survive it?

Review: Hope For Life is one of the few gen Dragonball fics I’ve absolutely fallen in love with. I’ve always loved the character of Maria Trunks and Hope for Life concentrates on his life before he comes to Dragonball’s canon time-line.

This is an AU and a heartbreaking story that deals with the possibility of Bulma dying in the alternate time-line. Trunks is wonderfully vulnerable as he tries to find a way to die without directly killing himself. Goku is serious without being majorly OC. Gohan is kind and sweet without appearing wimpy and Vegeta is suspicious without being a bastard. All told this is one of the best character pieces I’ve ever seen in the Dragonball fandom.

And not to worry, while the premise is heartbreaking the ending is hopeful and sweet.
