Review:
After hearing through the grapevine about a comment Chakotay made, Tom decides to pay the First Officer a late night visit. The conversation that follows and what it leads to, however, are interpreted in very different ways by the two men.

I’m not usually a fan of fics that give a terrible back-story (usually involving a combination of hard drugs, prostitution and other shady dealings) for the period between Caldik Prime and Tom joining the Maquis – the alcoholism hinted by canon is quite enough, I think; anything else stretches a bit what we know about the Federation. Yet “A Question of Perspective” really works for me. One of the reasons is that I usually enjoy stories told from contrasting point of views (in this case one chapter for each character), especially when we get to see that characters react so differently to the events happening to them. The other is the fact that Maisie makes you really feel for the characters – by the time I finished the story I was pitying them both: one for what he believed he must sacrifice, the other for his blindness. All in all, it’s a good, if somewhat depressing C/P fic.
